started to see the ads in the magazines again..free fireplace, pay for mantel? or vice versa

9cents an hour to heat a room? Does anyone have these units? Are they worth the price? Are they inexpensive to run? Roll from room to room? Any help would be appreciated.

Only thing Amish about them is the wooden surround. From what I've read over the years they are universally a "thumbs down".

Only the mantle and frame are Amish made. The last time I looked they were made in Wayne county, OH which is Amish country. They are little more than an electric heater with a frame. The heating unit itself is probably made in China. I don't think they are that cheap to run but it also depends on the cost of electricity in your area.

Are you going for warmth and heating capabilities or just the look?

Our local paper has an ad today for "free mantle" but it reads like you get the entire thing for free....but no, it's just the mantle is free, the heater is still $298.

I actually live in Ohio where they are made and know the owner of them . They are very well made and the flame is very real looking . We had one but gave it to our daughter. We didn't use it for heat ..but it does heat. I do wish they would be larger in size .

One came with my condo. I am trading the insert for a shelf insert to get more strage.

I grew up on real fire places & wood stoves. A poor imitation.

HSN has them from the Amish and they had a presentation on them today. You might look it up there and read the reviews.

** Peace

There's an ad in our paper too. Sounds like a scam. I'm surprised that HSN is selling them.
