What color shoes with navy dress?

Started 1279629090.15 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1279845418.427 by Connieb

I just bought a navy dress for a September wedding and I am not sure what color shoes would look best with it. Its down the Jersey shore so I did not plan on wearing nylons. I bought the dress at Macys and they have the 180 day return so I thought I would go ahead and buy it and if I see something I love more I will return it. I am just so always undecided when I shop but the dress was the only one left and come Sept I was afraid I would say I should have bought the dress I saw back in July.

Muted silver or bronze strappy sandals, which works with just about anything and look great too with a nice pedi

Formerly GEV and green~tea (which I may alternate from time to time)

Navy, taupe, gold, pink - yes, I agree w/ the strappy sandals. And any of these colors would work. Silver, too, if your jewelry is white metal.

Navy, red, white, black, emerald green (with a scarf or other hint of green on top), almost any shoe really.

Any metallic heel will work, silver, gold, bronze. Nude would be okay also. I would stay away from the white.

I wear silver tone shoes with Navy.

Navy, silver, gray, taupe, black patent, pewter. Just coordinate jewelry or other accessory with the color shoes to tie it all together. I absolutely love red shoes and red handbag with navy dress, but I know you don't want to look like a flag at a wedding. Save the navy blue dress and wear it another time with red. I think kiwi green and navy are smashing together.

I really like these with a navy dress.

Since Navy is a neutral, you could wear any color shoe with it you would like. For the occassion you are talking about, I think a muted silver or pewter sandal would look very nice or even gold, I'm just not a gold fan. LOL

If you can wear the dress outside of the wedding, you can wear brown, black (although again, not a fan), red, bone, tan. Really anything.

You can't buy love but you can adopt it. Adopt, don't shop.

I would match my shoes and purse to the color of the metal on my jewelry (silver or gold) and since it's summer you can easily find a nice lighweight pair (ie sandals) with not too much metallic color on them (as opposed to wearing say silver or gold pumps!)

Hope it helps:)

Lots of options, but in part it depends upon whether the wedding is at night or during the day, and what the weather will be.

If at night... strappy sandles in metallic or navy would look great. And you can even wear black sandles...black and navy are very sophisticated together.

If during the day...if weather is still warm, I like a taupe colored shoe or sandle, or any pop of color or navy. But no metallics during the day...personal opinion.

If during the day and the weather is cooler....then any color you like (except white or beige) and either a sandle or a closed shoe. Since it's September....stay away from pastels. But deeper tones like grass green or butterscotch yellow or plum or teal would look beautiful during the day. Of course red looks smashing with navy (and you won't look like a flag, you will look well put together). Even a british tan would look very nice.

Navy is an excellent backdrop for playing with color. And unexpected colors that pop look really nice. I personally love navy with teal and green or fuscia.

Lots of good ideas here!

I don't have much to add, except I wouldn't try to find navy shoes to match the dress. There are too many shades of navy. Even if you found the perfect shade, it wouldn't look all that great. It's more fashionable to choose a color, such as a metallic or black or brown.

I like neutral/nude shoes (taupe, bone, bronze) with navy for a dress occasion. As another poster mentioned, if the wedding is an evening, formal event you can go with a bronze or goldtone with some sparkle. If the wedding is during the day and/or perhaps a less formal outdoor event, I'd go with a less flashy nude-tone leather. A nude shoe lengthens the leg and won't upstage the dress. Dressy sandals, a peep-toe, or a pump would be fine.

I would wear navy or silver. I think it is fine to wear metallic shoes during the day.

Nude so you see the dress not the shoes (and your legs look a mile long)

I have a white and navy print dress, and I always wear my strappy red heels with it.

I also agree that metallic or nude would look great.

What is the style of your dress? Is it a sheath, a cocktail dress, or something a bit more casual?

Not knowing anything about the dress but the fact that it is navy, my first choice would be nude, and my second choice would be nude. If you can't find either of those colors, try nude! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I don't like black with navy. I like Good Stuff choices and those would be my choices. Navy is ok with navy, but it's not my first pick

Daytime, nude or black. (I LOVE a great pair of nude heels with navy. So updated and classy)

Evening, nude or metallic.
