On Youtube I've been watching a multi part series on the influences and growth of all the music we grew up with from the mid 60's through all the major artists. Why they wrote what they did, how they got together. It's really interesting if you love music.
The first in the series is "LA From The Byrds To The Eagles". Great music and videos!
What's your favorite music?

Thanks for the tip. I will go and check it out. Love the Eagles and all the rock music of the 70's, 80's up to the present. Love country music also.

I teach American Pop Music college course. We cover before the turn of the 20th C. to present day. The luxury of time prevents us from delving into every major artist's bio, as interesting as they all are. Only in some units we do get to spend more time.
After the mid 60s pop music seems to have taken a (or should I say, another) sharp turn. Historically, very revealing!
In all the music I know and teach, it is still hard for me to pick a favorite. (Joni wouldn't be one of the contenders...) But I constantly ask the class to choose their favorites and explain why!

Yes, I am a baby boomer and have always loved 60s music! I know I will really like the YouTube series, so thank you for telling me (and all my fellow fans) about it.

Thanks for this! I love music from many different eras and locations, including the rock of the singers and songwriters of the 70s.
I also love the music recorded is Muscle Shoals, AL during the 60s and 70s - Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, The Staple Singers, Otis Redding, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, and more. PBS has a fantastic Muscle Shoals documentary in their Independent Lens series that I highly recommend.
If I add the link, it will get deleted, but Google PBS Independent Lens Muscle Shoals and you will get a link to the PBS site. It has information about the movie (but you can't watch the actual movie there ), a link to a Spotify Playlist where you can play the songs from the movie. You can download the soundtrack to the movie on iTunes, download the movie on iTunes or Amazon, or buy the DVD on Amazon.
Really good stuff!

That's my music I grew up on and still listen to and prefer. Went to many concerts in my youth when tickets were gasp!!!!!---under $10 each, back in the late 60's and 70"s before children came along. Had the vinyl records too, but have since updated to cd's. Also loved Motown. In fact Smokey Robinison is coming to a local casino next month---would love to go!!!

I love classic rock, especially the Eagles. Steely Dan is also a favorite group.
My tastes these days favor jazz. I always have jazz music playing softly in the background at work. My favorites are: Joe Sample, Boney James, Chris Botti, David Sanborn, Diana Krall, Lee Ritenour, and George Benson.
