SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (Tuesday, 2/17)

Good Morning Ladies! Hope those of you in the snow, ice, and cold zone are staying safe today. I'm feeling pretty happy not to be dealing with the cold weather right now. I see that most of the schools are closed in Maryland. And, I noticed that they are expecting record or at least near record low temperatures there later in the week. Fingers crossed that no one loses power, has an accident, or slips on the ice.

Did you try your new oven yet, Jean? It is pretty amazing that they delivered it yesterday, despite the road conditions, etc. We only use mail order for prescriptions that cost far less that way than using the pharmacy. As I remember it, the prescription DH is waiting for cost at least double if you use a regular rather than on-line pharmacy. That is weird about your mail going to the wrong State, etc.

We have the senior lunch program today, and I think that there may be a "King cake" for dessert today. I know that Kathleen had tried one for the first time today.

DH found from his doctor that he has an eye infection (I think it is an infection) which is causing his eyes to water, and I am hoping his prescription will be ready later today.

In addition to my volunteer job, I also plan to go to the gym this afternoon, and maybe take a walk.

I changed my cell phone plan again last night. I still have unlimited talk and text, but reduced data. I wasn't sure if I could do without the larger amount of data, but after two months under the other plan, it doesn't seem like it will be an issue, and the bill was way too high under the plan I had.

Waves to Jean, Kathleen, Arlene, twinny, pinky ann, Susan, Marijane, LindaR, Karen, Rosa, and all of our posters and readers.

Have a nice day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Linda I haven't actually tried the cake today but saw it on the news and am determined to buy one. There is a little bakery down the street, I wonder if they would have one. Probably hard to find but my craving must be satisfied.

I was going to buy beads this morning but the store I stopped at was closed, so no mardi gras beads for coworkers. Maybe I will drag DH out and about tonight, we will see.

Oh, sorry I misunderstood, Kathleen. I think I had a piece of King cake in the past, but it was a while ago. Too bad about those beads.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (Tuesday, 2/17)

I found King cake online with all kinds of fillings that you can add! They sounded delicious but expensive, and "out of stock" right now.

Feeling so much better today. I'm not sure if I shared, but it was a sinus infection, and it was so bad that my gums have been all swollen for several days now. Last night I could tell they were finally getting better but it's been tricky what to eat without hurting. The Dr thought it was strange but now I know several people who have also had such a bad infection that their gums swelled up too, one had even scheduled with an endodontist thinking she needed a root canal.

It is nice to have my dog back here with me. She slept on DH's side of the bed, strange, until I looked over there and discovered why - a cushy comforter (extra for guests) is laying down there. Covered by hair now, I'm sure. I did bring home an old nice bathmat folded and put it under the table hoping she likes it in there. She loves her crate so was trying to recreate a space like it, but really on either side of the bed is a small space for her to get comfy.

I am thinking more and more about that shark vacuum, the smallest one, and may have to purchase it before long. I really wanted a nice rug because ours is icky rv carpet but now I don't know if that is really necessary.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (Tuesday, 2/17)

Hello Ladies, we had a few inches of snow overnight and I think the kids here were hoping for a no school day....but that didn't happen. the sun has come out now but windy and only about 6 degrees out. More snow to come this weekend. -

Kathleen I have been to Mardi Gras once several years ago,DH was on a business trip around that time and we stayed a few extra days. it was something to see,I had fun and keep saying I would love to go back! at midnight everything stops.street cleaners come out ..and within a few Hours the streets are spotless of all the partying that went on for a few days. I hve my beads somewhere and also have had King Cake. Hope Kyane finds a comfortable spot in her new place.

Hoping your DH has his eye infection cleared up with meds LindaL. I just have a "regular" cell phone that's ages old so does nothing but make and receive calls....I have to admit I never use it though but keep it in my purse just in case....a ..nd the few times I did not have it over the years had a flat tire and to find a pay phone was just about nearly impossible.

Looks like I will be staying in again today...but hope to get out tomorrow.....want to buy fish, salmon, for Ash Wednesday supper. Tonight I'm making chicken fajitas and maybe tacos.

Keep warm everybody.....have a nice day ,Marijane

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (Tuesday, 2/17)

Linda--Thank you for starting the thread. Good job on changing your cell plan to one that makes more economical sense. No, I haven't tried out the oven as I wasn't really ready to consider using it. It is still in the box; I was more interested in getting through the snow storm. I was really thinking future use when I bought it and delivery was a month before I expected when the advance order was placed.

Kathleen--I have no idea what King bread is but I guess it is associated with Fat Tuesday.

The UPS order I was to get today which contained my Amazon subscribe and save items is still sitting in Tennessee. It now says it is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow but with the problems in the Louisville hub as a result of the storm, that delivery might be in question.

I was not alone yesterday in getting deliveries from FedEx despite their normally not delivering on Monday.

I did get energetic this morning and spent an hour using a power snow shovel/blower to do the back walk and driveway. I hadn't intended to do so much but once I got started, it was hard to stop. I did get some help with the lower third of the driveway when the business across the street came to shovel out. I really needed that help as the town when they plowed the street shoved the snow onto the entrance to the driveway. Duh! They never look what they are doing.

I do like the TSV and the idea of using it in a location instead of mulch. Right now, I am tired from the morning work, so I'm heading for the bed and the Kindle to rest.

Kathleen I don't remember the King cake I had looking like what you posted on FB...the one I had was sorta like a pound cake but in colors of purple and yellow ( food dye) with a sugary purple/yellow on top.....I did not get a piece with the baby Jesus in it....I imagine there are all versions of this cake.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (Tuesday, 2/17)

LL, I hope that your DH's eye problems clear up quickly. I hate watery eyes. We don't have a cell phone yet, but I think we will check into getting one for "dummies" this spring. We do lots of traveling so for safety sake it would be a good idea I am sure.

RC, I am glad that you are feeling better & that gum issue would be unpleasant when it comes to eating something that doesn't hurt them. Have fun if you do drag your DH out for some fun. Having the dog back with you will make things seem more like home for you.

Marijane, chicken fajitas sounds good. A few inches of snow is manageable for your area as it is in ours as our plows do a fantastic job. I remember once when our DC were in HS & it was snowing so bad when I went to work that I told them there would be no school the next day. They didn't do their homework assignments & guess what? The next day there was school. I still hear about that episode. LOL.

Jean, Good job at getting the snow removed & it was nice that you got help. I don't buy much in the way of flowers etc. as we travel a lot & it is hard to keep things watered. DH does plant some nice things in front of the house & I do tomato plants on the edge of the driveway. I can't do outside things ( except hang the laundry out) so I try to keep things simple for my him.

It sunny & nice today so DH did get his walk in. He walked by the house where he fell last week & said that that is the only place on the sidewalk that was raised about 2". If he had been going the other direction, he would have just walked right off of it.

It is supposed to be very cold tomorrow & Thursday but no snow other than a dusting. I am so glad to be living in the Midwest. They said today on the news that January was the 6th warmest in history. I like the change of seasons as nothing lasts too long except summer for me.

I am going to take it easy for a couple of days & enjoy the nice sunshine. It heats the house up nicely & makes hot tubbing fun. I also need to stay healthy as my next infusion is scheduled for Friday.

Mom has another eye appt. on Thursday. I don't see any improvement, so it will be interesting to see what the specialist tells us.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (Tuesday, 2/17)

Hi girls! It's a freezing cold day out with temps only in the 20s. Honeybun and Autumn go outside only long enough to eat and do their business then bark to be let right back in. Angelica isn't housebroken yet, so I leave her out on the tie-up for an hour or so until she "goes," otherwise she runs upstairs and makes a mess on the floor. It's not too bad - she has her insulated Puppy Palace and likes to stay in there;it's guaranteed to be at least 20° warmer in there than it is outside.

My delivery of canned cat food from Amazon arrived today; it was $9 and change a case, so I took advantage of that price while it lasts. I need to go to Publix and pick up my paczki; I was going to go out and eat tomorrow, but since more cold weather is forecast I might do so today and just stay indoors for the rest of the week. I was thinking chicken parm, but now that someone mentioned fajitas.... {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Twinny, hope your mom's appointment goes well, and LindaL, hope DH's eyes are better soon. I know from experience how annoying eye problems can be.

Well, I unclogged my vacuum cleaner, and although things are being picked up off the floor, the canister doesn't have anything in it. Guess it's time to give Victor a call, although I have a better "pets" vacuum in the garage that also needs work, so if he's going to repair one of them, that's probably the better choice.

Jean, I see by Amazon that I also got a delivery yesterday of a replacement dog leash, but sent via USPS. Odd how both they and FedEx delivered yesterday. I haven't been down the driveway yet to look in the mailbox; I wish they had an option where you could choose which carrier you want, or at least decline to use one you don't like.

Guess I'd better get dressed and be on my way; I'm really looking forward to eating out and not having a half dozen or so pair of eyes staring at my food longingly and little paws trying to snag something off my plate. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} Have a blessed day, everyone!

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (Tuesday, 2/17)

FHG, Have fun at lunch today. Sometimes I do things a day later or earlier as the weather can be a contributing factor. Last Thursday when DH & I were visiting his mom, I dropped my old eyeglasses off at my eye clinic to get them "dipped." They came back yesterday. Very quick delivery as they said it usually takes a week. My niece just brought them to me. I don't wear sunglasses often, but they will be perfect for our vacation next month. It is so nice today that it is hard to believe that it will be so cold tomorrow & Thursday.
