I always buy 2 because good shoes (especially) dressy shoes, are hard for me to find. If it fits perfect, I like to have a back up.

#2, in a different color

Footwear is a challenge for me. A big challenge. When I find something that I love and that fits well and is a classic style, I go with the #1 option. Not really as back up. But more like "one pair for now" and a second pair for future wear. Even if it's 2 or 3 years down the road. For example, last winter, I bought the perfect pair of dressy black patent pumps. Classic styling, pointy toe and a 2 inch kitten heel. The type of shoes you never see in stores anymore. It's a shoe that I will wear for dressy occasions. I bought two pairs. One for now. And one to have on hand when that pair wears out, which probably won't be for 3 years or more. But when it happens, I will have my shoes!

I do 1 and 2. If I love a basic show, I want two black pairs and maybe a color or two.

If I have the resources, I'll do both. There was one pair of thin strappy high heel sandals that I wish I'd have purchased an extra pair in black.

#2, but I'd buy the shoe in every color. My mother taught me that from a child--if you find a shoe that fits you well, buy it in every color!
