your book club, manicurist, childrens' teachers, mailman and on and on. It's absurd and a total turn off.

They are ridiculous, aren't they ? I would like to know how many of then actually gift all of these people each year ?

Adult family and friends stopped exchanging gifts several years ago. Only children get gifts.

Not to mention going broke in doing so. They have been saying these same tired old sales pitches for a long time. I think by now we know who to buy for.
