Review: Elie Tahari for Kohls

So, I had a chance to swing by Kohls and take a first hand look at the new line of clothes by fabulous designer Elie Tahari. For me, these capsule collections are always a mixed bag--Catherine Malandrino was awesome, whereas Peter Som was awful. This collection is on the upside of the bell curve--plenty to love.

I've long been a fan of the clean lines and minimalist style of this designer and that's what you're getting at Kohls. Most of the clothes are black or grey and there's little to no embellishment apart from some rather wonderful graphic prints. The fabrics are, as always, not the best, but these clothes are actually well made with nice finishes. I was able to try on about 80% of the collection (some things are online only) and here are my top three hits and a few misses:

/> This dress fits like a dream and is made from a thick fabric that's figure flattering. You have to really look closely to see that it's the NY skyline on the hem. If a dress isn't your things, there's a really <a rel= good shirt with this same pattern.

/> This is essential Tahari--modern, fitted, but with a twist. There's a bit of netting at the shoulder that make this cool but doesn't show bra straps. It's long enough for jeans, too. <img src=

This looks sort of blah here, but on, it takes off 10 pounds. Seriously, the illusion works and the textured fabric is right on trend for fall.

I wanted to love this and from the front it's striking but the back dips into a weird gathering that I just couldn't make work.

From the designs I have seen in ads, they look new, original and refreshing, and so cute even us "older" women can wear and feel really good in them!!! Can't wait to get to Kohl's to purchase some.

Can't remember the last time I shopped at Kohl's. Thx for posting & GREAT review!!! Those dresses & the black top are of interest.

gardensla, i bought the NEW YORK dress for my 22 year old daughter online when the entire collection was on sale! it arrived last week. she loved it and wore it the same night it arrived. it looks so nice on her and it can be an evening out dress OR add a jacket or cardigan and tights/hosiery and it would be totally appropriate for work.

It's a great dress. I wore mine with tights and booties. I'm tall and it hit me about 1-inch above the knee. It looks much shorter on the Kohl's model.
