SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Good morning, shopping friends. I took the day off from work so I could go to the DMV in the city and have my driver's license replaced. I was also going to have blood work done early today but I slept late and ate before I remembered it was a fasting blood work.

I see that my Laura Geller TSV and the IM ceramic watch has shipped. I got the watch in blush pink so time will tell if I like the color. I have a tendency to like more intense colors.

I read about that WalMart Beauty Box available for $5 shipping only in another thread. I decided to bite and see what I got. It is worth far more than the $5 I paid for shipping. Included were Olay Regenerist moisturizer, Loreal Moisturizer, both of which are healthy sample sizes and perfect for travel. Also included were a full size of Secret Clinical Strength deodorant and a full size of Cover Girl Continuous Color lipstick. A sample size vial of Juicy Couture perfume was also included as well as one-time use packets of Clear Scalp and Hair Beauty Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner.

I got an email and see that my flight times for the trip to Honolulu in late April have changed. My flight from the airport in the capitol city now leaves an hour and a half later or at around 7:30am. The flight to Honolulu now leaves an hour early. This means that instead of having to kill 3 hours in Chicago where I usually had breakfast, etc., I have an hour to make the HNL flight. I can handle sleeping in a little later but would prefer more time in Chicago.

As soon as I eat my breakfast and gulp down a handful of pills, I'll be getting ready to go to the city. I will be meeting a friend for a late lunch/early dinner after dealing with the DMV. I may do some grocery shopping but I don't anticipate any other shopping at this point.

Have a great day. If you shop, shop wisely.

I like the looks of the Carole Hochman Lounge PJ set but can't bring myself to pay that price for something to wear around the house when I could invest the same amount of money into something I can wear out of the house.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Good morning Jean. I am looking forward to trying on my new jeans today. Have been looking at the "duds" in my closet that I just don't want to let go of, several tops that were final sale and I took a chance. Nothing that looks bad but for whatever reason I have to try them on and probably wear one last time before I let them go.

This afternoon I leave work a little early and will get my hair colored and trimmed. Yay! So glad I remembered to grab the checkbook this morning. I need to also fill up at lunch.

I feel like I'm rambling so will just quit there. I have no shopping "wants" today, but the day is young. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Good afternoon ladies, hope all is well.

Jean - Thank you for starting us today, have a good time at your dinner. Sorry to hear about your flight time changes, hope all goes well at the airports that day. What watch did you get, hope you do like the color, I am trying not to collect too many watches. I gave some away a while ago, and of course, bought a few new ones. I really need to stop doing that.

Kathleen - Hope you like the new jeans, as for the duds, donate them and they won't haunt you every time you open the cupboard. I have done that with many things, and it feels good not to have something reminding you of a bad purchase. Because I have done that, I am more careful on my purchases. I am not perfect on it, but much better.

Not much going on here today, we are getting a new garage floor, so today is part one of the new floor. The guys showed up early today instead of later in the day so of course we don't have the garage cleaned out completely, so we will be doing that after they leave. The fun just never ends here.

Well off to get some caffeine and do something constructive here. Have a good afternoon everyone.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Good Morning/Afternoon! Thanks for getting us started Jean. Hope you have a good time with your friend. Sorry you forgot about fasting for the blood test. I never saw anything about that WalMart beauty box. I may take a peek, but probably not this morning. Hope that the shorter time in Chicago doesn't pose a problem for you in April. I know one hour should be plenty of time, but sometimes it is not due to weather delays, etc. I agree with you about spending money for things to wear around the house versus outside. Difficult for me to justify.

Hi Kathleen -- good luck with the new jeans and the closet clean-out. I still have lots of trouble getting rid of things that still fit, etc. My new system -- I put the clothes on a rack near the washer, and don't get rid of them until I'm really sure, seems to work pretty well. I'll be giving away several things from that area to Vietnam Veterans this Thursday.

Waves to Susan, Arlene, twinny, Marijane, LindaR, Karen, Gayle, Nancy, Val, Rosa, Sonya, Gina, Kathy, Jules, and all of our posters and readers.

I was very surprised that the dermatologist found what he thinks is a basal cell carcinoma in my rib area. He cut it out, and it was small, but.... He said that many times these carcinomas start with sunburn/exposure when you are a teenager. I don't remember getting lots of sun or sunburn as a teenager or later. But, I guess it must have happened. He won't be sure until the test results come back.

Today I have my volunteer job at the senior lunch program, and DH will be coming for lunch. We will probably go to the gym this afternoon.

Nothing else to report. Have a good day everyone!

Hugs,

Linda

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Linda I have plenty of room by the washer, maybe I will try that. I think I need some trying on time and a friend to consult. I've gotten so much sun over the years that I think about that often. When did you start going to a dermatologist? Was it a spot that you could see or feel? DH has a couple spots I wish he would get looked at, but he's had many many shirtless Texas summers as well. Enjoy your day!

Jean I was a little concerned about the shorter delays at the airports. I once traveled with a group and one of the guys got "left behind" at our stop. It was a hassle but at the end of the day it all turned out ok.

Susan the tops in question are cute, not quite duds, but compared to all my other tops not getting worn. I might just put them in another closet and forget about them for a while. How do you get a new garage floor??? More details please!! lol

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Hi ladies. I have been trying to read your nice posts, but our lives have turned into a real live opera starting last Friday night. At dinner that night DH was eating corn on the cob when his permanently placed bridge came out. He has 4 teeth on it so now he is missing his 4 front teeth. Of course it happened at 5:10 p.m. when the dentist is already closed & not open again until Monday. We had planned to go to a fall festival at a nearby town Saturday morning then getting my mom to go to a 80th birthday party about 12 miles from here.

I had my appt. at UW-clinic last Monday & was ecstatic with the results of my reflex testing. Tuesday we took mom to her eye Dr. 20 miles away for shots in her left eye for M.D. I called my mom Saturday morning around 9:00 a.m. & she said her eye hurt & she couldn't see out of it when she went to bed Friday night. I told her to call the Dr. that gave her the shots & she was very stubborn about doing it. She did finally call that clinic & they told her to get to our local ER room immediately. I took her there & we were there 4 hours & when they examined her eye they told me that she would have to go to the UW-clinic as soon as we could get her there. I came home to get my DH & we all went to Madison. We were up there for over 4 hours & the specialists said she may need immediate surgery. By this time it was 7:00 p.m. They gave her 4 different eye drops & an antibiotic to take orally. We then came home & kept her overnight with us as we had to go back to the UW Clinic early Sunday morning. Her eye drop regime for me was 4 different drops every hour & every 2 hours at night.

When we got back up to Madison Sunday they said the infection was very bad & surgery could be anytime. We then went to our DD's & family as they are only /2 hour from the clinic & my DD is a nurse by profession. Her eye drop plan Sunday was every hour during the day & every 2 hours at night. Needless to say I am still exhausted from the nighttime regime. Yesterday we had her at the clinic up there again & they said eye drops every 2 hours by day & only once last night. We stayed with our DD & DSIL & DGC last night again as she had to be at the clinic at 7:45 today. Yesterday her eye drop plan was every 2 hours by day & only once in the middle of the night last night. Today when we took her to see the different specialists they said the eye looks a little better so the eye drops plan today until Friday morning will be every two hours & NONE in the middle of the night.

DH & I stopped at the dentist on the way home this morning. He can get into tomorrow to get his bridge cemented back in & both of us can get our teeth cleaned. Mom wants to stay in her home during the day as I still have to put drops in her eyes every two hours during the day. Then I think she will have to come over here late in the afternoon for dinner & stay all night. She cannot see out of either eye as the bad eye now was her good eye.

I would appreciate prayers that she will not fall in her own home. She is familiar with her surroundings so I hope & pray she will be fine until I get over there every 2 hours. Good thing we only live a block from her. When we go back at 1:30 this afternoon she said she wants to go over her funeral plans. She had them written out before we went on our recent vacation but they were a total mess & made me so unhappy. I hope she made some good choices & has a funeral like my father did almost 23 years ago. My dad would have been 93 today so that is adding some drama to our lives today.

Hugs to all of you.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Hi girls!

Well, I'm on the home stretch...I still have to write three papers for school; one is late (and will get done today), and two are not due until Sunday, but I hope to finish them earlier. Next week is the last week of classes, and there's an exam for each class, but that's it - I hope to be done with the exams by Monday or Tuesday, as I don't find them difficult. I can't believe how quickly the semester has flown by!

Gosh twinny, you've sure had your share of problems lately; I'll be honored to pray for you.

Jean, I hadn't heard of that box but looked into it; since I've been good on my diet I might allow myself a $5 treat each month, even though I've said I'm not buying anything non-essential for October.

Last night my daily treat was going to be a candy apple that a friend had given me, as I figured I'd better eat it before it went bad. OMGosh, that thing was AWFUL! {#emotions_dlg.ohmy} It was covered with peanuts, which tasted stale, and the cherry coating was just plain nasty. I appreciate her thinking of me, but after one bite, it went in the trash.

I saw a woman start another thread about being a clothes shopping addict, and I hope she joins us here - she sounds very much like the old me, although I confess I still have tons of clothes with tags still on them (most a size too small...but not for long!), and often find things in my closet that I have no idea of where they came from and could swear I'd never seen them before. {#emotions_dlg.crying} Sometimes I even come across things that make me wonder what the heck I was thinking when I bought them.

I've discovered is that if I buy something and wear it right away, it often becomes a favorite, such as the top I got in Goody's a few weeks ago. It's perfect for right now, both weight and color-wise; I've worn it twice already, and plan on wearing it again this week. I DO use PJs, which I often wear around the house, so that's never money wasted and I don't mind spending on them...although I have a pretty big nightwear wardrobe and don't need anymore. (And I don't buy expensive ones.) I guess my problem with regular clothes is shopping for the lifestyle I wish I had, rather than the one I do. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

I stopped by the PO yesterday and they had a big box filled with mail that I had to pick up at the counter, as I had ordered a number of items that will be Christmas gifts, plus I hadn't picked up regular mail in a week. All I need to get is a book for my pastor in Hawaii. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} And, of course, baking is done at the last minute.

Well, guess I'd better take the dogs out before I get down to work. I don't know where we're going - I'm bored with the same parks, although they get as excited as can be when we get near one of them. I admit I can't help but be envious...there's not much that excites me anymore, especially something so simple, but they're in ecstasy when they realize where we're going. Maybe we can go downtown and take a walk across the bridge as we haven't done that in a while...although there's a sign on it that says, "Do not allow dogs to yoorinate on bridge." Really? And how do they propose one stop them? {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} (Can you believe you can't type that word? Oy vey...)

Come to think of it, I'll have to have lunch before I go out; I got a new soup from Progresso and need to see if I like it, as it's BOGO at Publix. If it's a good one, I'll pick up a few more cans before the sale ends tonight.

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Oh Twinny, so sorry for all this. I will pray for you all and hope that Mom gets better quickly. Poor thing! I wouldn't do so well with getting up every hour, I can only imagine how exhausted you must be.

Re: SHOPAHOLICS: ONE DAY AT A TIME (TUESDAY, 9/30)

Jean, I hope you enjoy your day off except for going to the DMV today. I did get a sneak of the IM watch & the blush pink looks very nice. I haven't seen any QVC on TV since last Friday. I wanted to watch some of the different programs yesterday.

RC, I hope you enjoy your new jeans. Actually my closet looks good as I downsized it when it was really cold out. Now all I have to do is take out the summer things & put in the winter things. It has been in the 80's for several days but the bottom fell out last night. It is 30 degrees colder today than yesterday. DH & I didn't take jackets along with us as it was so hot but today we were freezing in our shorts/capris & short sleeved tops. I was thinking of a couple of nights ago when I had to get up every 2 hours. My DD gave me her fitbit to wear (I think that is what you have). It was set to go off at 1:30 a.m. & the next thing I knew was 2:45 a.m. I haven't slept 5 hours at one time for 13 years as I went to bed that night at 9:00. Yes it is exhausting getting every 2 hours for two straight days & giving mom her eye drops each hour during the day. Have fun at the salon. I am glad I got my haircut cut short right before we went on vacation.

Susan, Your day sounds as exciting as mine does right now. I haven't heard of getting a new garage floor but I imagine it must be new cement again.

LL, I hope your skin spot removal comes out with good results. I don't enjoy the sun anymore, but I did when I was younger. Have a nice lunch at the center with your DH.

FHG, It sounds like you are having a good time with your classes. The dogs are lucky to get such good care. I don't have any christmas shopping even started let alone done. right now I barely have time to think.

DH is mowing the lawn. I did pick an ice cream pail full of tomatoes when we got home this morning. Tonight for dinner will be chili which is now in the crockpot. I need to go give mom her eye drops in a few minutes. Then she will be done until 5:30. When we went over there at 1:30 she was so happy to be in her recliner. Hopefully she will stay put until I get there again. I did tell her not to even think about going down her basement stairs to wash. I told her I will wash in a couple of days & do hers too. DD did wash some clothes for mom yesterday as she didn't tkle any extra clothes at all. I did plan for 3 days to be gone, so I was fine. DH didn't take enough clothes either so he went to Shopko yesterday for a nice shirt. I did forget to take my curling iron so I did buy one yesterday when we were all at Shopko. It was actually on sale for $12.99 so I don't mind have a spare one.

Eye drop time again. I so hope she doesn't need surgery as they said it will be a very difficult risky one because of her age. Right now though, she can't see out of either eye.
