What's with the crooked statement necklaces?

How do you get them to stay off center like that? I've seen it too many times for the look to be accidental. (lovestoteach current thread, HSN yesterday, magazine)

I suppose some might be designed that way, for whimsical look. I haven't seen any. Some of the statement necklaces are light and flimsy, there's no "heft" to them. So, I'm sure they don't stay in place.
