Personal Stylist / Wardrobe Specialist (anyone ever use this service)?

Macy's & Nordstrom offers this service for FREE and I am "thinking" about trying it.

To be honest, I have seen many "What not to wear" Shows and I love the way the gals look so pulled together with their wardrobe by the end of the show and I think to myself "That's what I want to do"

Of Course, I cannot afford a WHOLE new wardrobe but I thought maybe 3 complete looks to start and then I can build on that from the tips / ideas they give to me.

I lost a LOT (a whole lot) of weight over 17 years ago and have managed to keep 98% of it off and I have never updated my look or dressed for my shape, my close friends tell me I still dress like I'm covering myself up or wear things a little to big. It's just a habit I never got out of from being heavy for such a big part of my life.

Anyways - just wondering if anyone has ever done this and if they enjoyed it or was it a waste of time? Should I just call Stacie & Clinton instead? Hee,heee{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I think it's a great idea. Many years ago, I did something very similar at Saks, and it made a huge difference in how I dressed (for the better). It was helpful having someone push me outside of my comfort zone. I really need to do it again. Congrats on the weight loss and even more congrats on the maintenance! I hope others who've used the service more recently at Macys and or Nordstrom chime in.

I haven't used it but have read stories about the Nordstrom personal shopper service and it sounds wonderful. Certainly could not hurt to call and get more information about it.

If you do, you should take a friend with you who can photograph the outfits so if you decide not to buy a particular outfit, you can remember the things that you liked/didn't like about each one.

Good Tip! Or, I can snap a pic of myself through the mirror in the dressing room Smiley Happy

That's what I am hoping for ...get me out of my "comfort zone" - I see so many things I want to wear but I'm just not sure how to pull the whole look together and if it is a look that would even look good on my body shape. Thanks for taking time to add your input, I appreciate it.

Sandgirl...what have to got to loose? Go for it and enjoy...congratulations on the weight loss...how did you accomplish this major success? I am in the same process and always interested in how others were successful. Sometimes we get in a rut with always buying the same clothes and it would be fun to venture outside the box. Good luck and have fun!

WILL DO for sure!! I am excited but at the same time, I worry about the pressure to buy everything. I have about 800.00 that I have put away a little at a time to use on some new cloths - I really don't want to go over what I have saved, that's why I figure 3 or 4 (depending on cost) outfits to get me started.

I used to use a personal shopper at Saks. They're great. They interview you to find out about your lifestyle, your preferences. etc. Then they pick out a lot of outfits for you to try on, and they select jewelry and shoes to go with the outfits.

What I like about it is it gets you thinking outside the box. I tend to be stuck in the "blazer" mode. I literally have more than 50 blazers. The shopper gets me trying on sweaters and other items I normally don't buy, and to my surprise I like them.
