Vanity sizing, size charts and my Eddie Bauer Boyfriend jeans

Started 1355284006.58 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1355459125.56 by KatCat1

Someone here recently posted about Eddie Bauer jeans and I jumped right in and ordered a pair of Boyfriend jeans in tall.

So, the girls said to order down. I checked the measurements for my size (in EB land that would be a 14) and ordered a 12 Tall.

Now boyfriend jeans are meant to be rolled up and in tall I expected them to be an inch or two above my ankle....they are mid calf. Thank god I am a fan of the Tom Sawyer high water (function of being almost 6' tall).

As for the size 12...a 10 would have done. Which is not reflective of my size vs the size chart.

In good news I love the weight of this jean and I'm keeping it...may belt it in a Tom Sawyer style rope....

Well you'll need a straw hat to go with that belt. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I love Eddie Bauer, and sometimes I forget that I love them and don't order for a while.{#emotions_dlg.lol} I have some really cute tops and sweaters and tanks from them, really nice quality and cute. I have never tried their jeans, I don't think. I have purchased pants but not jeans. Nice to know you are happy with their tall jeans, that is what I need. They sound like nice jeans, enjoy.

Amphi read again, they are not tall....I am wearing high waters....I hope the posters who bought the boyfriend jean weigh in here...about the length and sizing.

Hi catlvr -- pretty sure I was one of the posters in that thread because I bought 6 prs of EB's 'worn-in boyfriend jeans' (2 in each of the 3 shades) from EB. Hadn't found jeans that fit or were comfy/nice-looking on me in more than 15 years... !!

I'm only 5-1 so was totally ecstatic that even rolled down (which is how I plan to wear them permanently) they're EXACTLY right as straightleg-jeans for my approximately 27" inseam (EB's idea of a petite jean inseam is almost always 29 or 30). Sooo sorry that the tall length isn't the greatest for you... and I'm assuming it wouldn't be any better rolled down only a little or all the way, either?

As for the sizing, yeah there again I was floored. In every jean I've ever tried in stores, online, whatever -- had to go UP, often 2-3 sizes up. In the EB worn-in bf jeans, I absolutely *HAD* to go down. I really don't think it's "vanity sizing" so much as the lovely thin/sleek fabric plus the somewhat more generous 'boyfriend' cut.

According to EB size chart as well as many many other jeans charts over the years, I should've needed at least petite 12. With EB I chose to stop at 1 size down from that - petite 10 - simply because I'm always a bit worried about washing/drying/shrinking with any jeans. HOWEVER : YES, I could actually have worn petite 8 , i.e., 2 sizes down from chart sixze.

So, if you feel like it, yes, do try 2 down. It's a rigmarole I know. But whenever I tried jeans online in the past, 'always' had to order 2 to 3 different sizes. Did that with EB too, but then all I had to do was 'exchange' p12 & p8 for the p10s, and I ordered more p10s anyway at the same time, so it wasn't too awfully annoying or expensive.

Sunshine45 -- sorry for butting in.... No the worn-in boyfriend jeans aren't in one of EB's body type sections; they're supposed to be 'for all body types'. ----- Just wanted to mention also : Because I have a definite waist quite smaller than hips and do need a bit of extra room in thighs (pore ole legs ain't what they used to be), I had tried EB's curvy *straightleg* (bootleg is not for me, they all look horrible) once a while back. Great jeans, great fit for me -- but the so-called petite inseam was way too long. And at the time I just did not feel like dragging myself to a tailor or seamstress onnnnne more time. ----- The sad thing is, I knew the inseam when I ordered the jeans -- EB always clearly states it .... Guess I was just sorta hoping it was mis-stated, or that I'd get a 'defective' shorter one... ?! haha

ooooh Sorry. I misunderstood.{#emotions_dlg.blush}

So you ordered tall but they are not tall. Maybe they got mixed up in the warehouse? Boyfriend jeans are typically supposed to be a little shorter and wider in the legs I thought. Maybe they just overdid the shorter part. I would call tho and speak to a rep, they will allow you to return them at no charge and get the size you need.

awww... baby burns -- SO sorry we confused you!

The issues here are with just one particular EB style , the 'worn-in boyfriend jeans' ::: (1) inseam, which if too short is a real problem for a tall woman of course -- and (2) the possible need for sizing down.

I've never heard of (nor had) sizing-down situations with EB's other jeans whether boot-leg or straight or whatever. (I particularly like the 'curvy' jeans fit).

Just me personally, though : I look horrid in boot-leg, anyone's, all of 'em. As for EB's straight-leg styles, the main problem for me is ... again ... the inseam. Their idea of a petite inseam is 2-3" too long *IF* I want to wear flats/loafers & not be restricted to high heels (or not go through trouble/cost of having them taken up). That's why I was thrilled with those petite 'worn-in boyfriend jeans' ---- for me, when rolled down they become comfy yet very-nice-fitting straightleg jeans with an appropriate flat-shoes inseam.

I hate when they size like that because I wonder if every style will fit the same.
