Why are they making tunics so long now ?

Tunic length used to be 30" but lately I see them at 34" or more. I find that to be unflattering and honestly, the tunic overwhelms the wearer. I thought we are supposed to wear our clothing not the clothing wear us. I hate this new trend. I am a big tall girl too - it is way worse for the smaller ladies.
