Peep Toe and Hose?

Started 1348853589.053 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1348940492.013 by GoodStuff

Hi all! Just wondering what the fashion police say about wearing hose or tights with peep toe shoes. I've noticed the Q selling them in suede and it makes me wonder. I've always thought the purpose of open toed shoes was to show off your toes, but wearing tights or hosiery defeats the purpose.....your thoughts?

Back in the 1970s I wore peep toe heels, of course, with sheer, nude pantyhose that were called "sandalfoot"; the toes weren't reinforced.

Now, if I still wore peep toes, I'd wear the same thing. No tights/colored stockings, and certainly not bare legs unless they were casual sandals, not dress heels.

I have never worn tights with peep toe shoes. There have been a few instances when I have worn nude pantyhose with peep toe shoes. Sometime bare legs or tights just don't look right with a certain dress, but I want to wear my peep toe heels, so I wear nude nose. I know there are those who will say I am old-fashioned or out of date by doing it, but guess what? No one said anything to me about it, the fashion police didn't care, the world didn't end, and I was much more comfortable in my hose.

I think it's just a sign of the times. Everything I see and hear says it's OK as long as it's tights -- not clear hose. I might if it looked OK, but I'm not sure. I have lots of tights that I love but I think I would wear them with a closed toe or boots. Again, I look at it on me and if I don't like it, it's a no. I think I might though. It's OK with the fashion police from what I hear.

Everyone wears them bare legged now. Some fashionistas will criticise anyone wearing them with hose of any kind. But I think the most important thing is that you feel comfortable. As Wilma said, the world won't end if you wear nude hose.

I like peep toe shoes with tights (cold weather) or bare legs (warm weather). I wouldn't wear them with nude hose.

I definitly agree with what wilma says. I am not young & my legs are not pretty...so if I wear skirts that are around calf length or at my knee, then I will wear pantyhose w/sandal foot whether it is peep toe shoes are just reg. heels. To me it just looks better on me. If I wear a long skirt then no hose. If it looked ok then I might wear tights w/peep toe shoes. I think you just have to go by what looks best with each outfit & on you personally.

It seems the trend is either tights or bare legs. Well, I'm not wearing bare legs in the winter - I like to be warm, so if I was going to wear peep toe shoes, it would be with nude hose or tights.

I saw a copy of Glamour recently and Victoria Beckham was the guest editor and she had a whole tirade going against what the Brits call "tan tights" and American's call pantyhose. It sort of made me laugh. I figure if that makes me a fashion "don't" because I wear nude hose, oh well. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

They used to make hose for peep toes - don't know if they still do. Personally, I don't personally like peep toes on me, but if I did wear them, it would only be in warmer weather. I HATE HATE HATE the bare legged look! There's nothing more unattractive than white legs hanging out of a nice outfit. And all of our legs should be white since we know what the sun does to us. (I know, I know - give it a rest!)

But having said all of that - wear what feels good to you and it really doesn't matter what the rest of us think. We are all different.

I still wear nude hose and really never realized they went out of style lol. I couldnt care less. I have seen women wear suits with no hose, bare leg, and I think it looks absolutely awful. For the most part tho, I do wear tights only because some of them are thin enough like regular hose and just more comfortable. ....or its cold out and they are a little warmer. Otherwise, I dont pretty much care what folks think about my hose. I find that so silly.

Okay, off my rant....:)

I dont have many peep toe shoes, but do love them, but I always thought you should wear them bare but....I think nude hose wouldnt be bad at all. I have always worn them bare.

I do own a pair of black suede peep toe pumps and I wear tights with them all the time. I would never wear hose with them.

I was sitting next to my boss in a meeting the other day and noticed how nice her legs looked...a lovely color and so smooth, but I noticed her painted toes in her peep toe shoes and thought "she's not wearing pantyhose." After the meeting I laughingly told her I'd been wanting to reach over and touch her legs to see if she had hosiery on and she laughed and said "they are toeless." So yes, there are toeless panty hose out there and they look great! Another friend told me she wore the Hanes brand of toeless. Check it out!

My skin naturally has some color to it. I never get super pale.

Besides, I don't think pale legs (or skin) looks bad at all.

Peep toes are not for winter wear imo so no to the tights. That's sort of like wearing tights with sandals in the winter! {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

I thinks it's a very stylish look. It's a great look for the office.

Down here in the South, you can wear lightweight opaque tights with peep toes or bare legs with peep toes. I do bare legs all winter no matter the temp.

Whoever came up with the idea to wear dress clothes without hose should be shot. I have yet to see bare legs on an otherwise lovely dressed woman that look good.

There are toeless styles of hose for use with peep toes.

The fall peep toes should be worn with tights. Too cold to go bare legged and totally tacky with hose (and I happen to like and wear hose a lot). Hose and open toes=a big no no but some don't care and thats ok too.

I wear the sandal foot pantyhose with my high heel sandals. Not a problem.

Tights and peep toes are very fashionable together these days. Sheer panty hose and peep toes, not so much.

Gosh, I hope I never run into you with my pale legs hanging out of my skirt.

To the OP, I never wear peep toes in the colder months nor with hose regardless of the season or climate. It doesn't look right to me and never has ever since I saw the older ladies I grew up around wearing hose and sandals.

The open-toed hose sounds like the best solution or MAYBE tights instead of traditional hose though it's still odd to me despite being "in". Then again I only wear hose for business meetings anymore so what do I know. Love tights, hate hose.

Suede open toed shoes look great in the winter, always with sheer panty hose with sandal toes. Similar to long hangy hair styles on some older women (Hillary Clinton for example) if they really knew how white legs with blue veins look they wouldn't do it.

Where do I sign up for your fashion police firing squad?

I have only worn hose once in about 30 years. No one round here wears them. Maybe it's a regional thing.

My legs look great, thank you very much. I get a tan in the summer and they look just fine.

I agree with you. I don't like tights anyway lol, and I sure wouldn't wear them with peep toe shoes. I'd either go with bare legs or nude hose that don't have reinforced toes.

Off hand I think tights & open toe shoes would look odd.....but Jane showed a pair of houndstooth or was it checkered ? Peep toes last night, and had tights on . It looked good , IMO. I think as long as a shoe is made of a " cold weather style fabric ", like suede , and a wintry color ( browns, black, burgundy , etc. ) tights would match it well, and the open toe doesn't look obvious so much . .......if a shoe is light in color & materials, then IMO sheer hose look better . ..............btw, don't care for the " hose less " look at all . I just think it doesn't complement a dressy / office look . It doesn't look smooth or refined enough . It looks as out of place , as if someone were to wear hose or tights with sandals and capris . .....................IMO, the entire head to toe look , has to be in sync with each other , in texture , color , dressy versus casual , etc. Last edited on 9/28/2012

Absolutely you can wear peep toes in the winter. Winter does necessarily mean snow. Wink
