Does MS Office Personal, in todays special value, Item #E226569 have to be renewed each year, or is it one and done?

365 Means just that...only good for (1) year.

It's Microsoft's new way to keep you repurchasing & them controlling the price every year.

You can still buy Office online. The Home and School version givs everything that you would need, and costs about $100. You can install it yourself. Either buy as a download online, or at a store that comes with a CD.

I have heard that there are generic equivalents that you can download that are free and are one and done. Don't remember the names; maybe someone else does.

I'd be very reluctant to buy "subscriptions" to Microsoft Office if I could find an acceptable alternative.

I recently have had some problems with MS Office 2007. You may want to try Google Docs, a cloud based program, or Open Office. http://www.openoffice.org/
