"Kohl's Gift Card Survey" - BEWARE!

I shop at Kohl's. Shortly after I'd been there last, and used a gift card from Christmas, I received this e-mail in my inbox (not in my spam). I'm usually very careful about what I open, but I had just USED a gift card and wasn't thinking, and when I opened it, it did seem like it was from Kohl's. . .

HUGE MISTAKE!

I never did take the survey. I'm being bombarded with spam now - a lot more than usual. When I tried to call Kohl's they had no idea what I was talking about. I've tried to "unsubscribe," but that hasn't done anything. So for now, I'm just deleting all of the spam that's coming in. I learned my lesson. Be careful of this if it shows up in your inbox! {#emotions_dlg.mad}

When I get emails I don't want, I just block the sender so next time it goes straight to junk mail.

When you unsubscribe, it tells the spammers it's a vaild e-mail address. They in turn sell your address to everyone who will buy it. Be prepared for an onslaught of more spam. I'd recommend you update and run all of your security scans just in case you have something on your computer. If you don't have Malwarebytes, here is a link to the free download.

I would like to try the free trial version of Malwarebytes. Do you know if I need to turn off my Windows firewall before downloading? Thanks

It's not a free trial. There is a free version which runs manually and paid version which runs in realtime. The paid version is a one time fee of $24.99. You don't need to turn off the firewall to download or install Malwarebytes.

How did using a gift card have anything to do with getting spam emails? Whenever I use a gift card I never have to provide anyone with my email address.

I think this happens often. I got tricked into one of them at one time and a slew of emails came my way. I was so frustrated I fell for it. I always always delete that stuff and I just had a weak moment. Teaches me for trying to attack email before I am fully awake.
