Just from a brand stanpoint, I'd go with Sony by a mile. But that's my personal preference re: brands from life experience and reviews. I have one Sony VAIO and, while I haven't had it long enough to write a proiper review, so far I like it very much and seems to be well built and, so far, seems to meet the expectations I have for this brand.

There are many many models of computers with both of these brands. I'd check a lot of reviews and a lot of models. If QVC sells any of the models you are looking at, although they would obviously be over-priced, don't even put much stock in the reviews here either, because too many people review items before they even use them.

Bippity boppity BOOYAH!

I'm a longtime fan of HP, but I've been hearing lots of complaints lately about their newer laptops. About all you can do is read tech reviews and customer reviews and try to make an informed decision.

I would buy an HP laptop direct from the company. When I am buying a laptop, I want one with a (2x2) wireless card. This means it has two send and receive antennas, and bluetooth. I have a better chance of not having a connection problems with the wireless signal.

This is how HP lists their wireless cards on the Specs and data sheets online.

Intel 802.11b/g/n (2x2); Bluetooth. A card with a (1x1) antenna is listed this way (1x1) 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth

The worst computer I have ever owned was a Sony and I paid more thinking I was getting the best.

I'd get the HP, build it at the site or you can get good deals at retail.

I've never had a bad experience with an HP and world wide they are not the most used computer, business and home.

I tried the HP. I retuned it and got the Sony. I love it. The keyboard being lit is a huge plus!
