No it doesn't have an SD slot. The price is ridiculous. This is the old Fire that sells on Amazon for $159. The new Kindle Fire HD is 16GB for $199. Unless you want to spend an extra $40 for a pair of ear buds and a stylus for a slower tablet, get it on Amazon.

I second the Amazon idea. Better, newer product... same price range.

I am still pondering my TABLET choice. I probably will get the paperwhite, just for reading and get my tablet later. I am looking at the Surface which is a mini Windows 8 device that in my case would be a neat little desktop functioning computer to carry around. Only problem ---- it is pricey. I do gadgets, but don't like pricey. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

This is the original Fire which Amazon sold last week as a special for $129 but is now back to $159. Pay $199 at Amazon and get the improved model and then add the accessories you want.

In today's paper, Office Max or Office Depot (I always get them confused) has KF HD for $199 with a $20 gift card.

None of the Kindles have SD slots.

While I do agree that this price is crazy, I disagree about it being the original Fire. It is actually improved. Faster processor (40%) and more memory (double). The old Fire sold in stores for $119 before the launch of the improved.

I was hoping they would do the HD as the special {#emotions_dlg.sad}. You can buy the stylus in stores for $11.99, ear buds $9.99. Which means they are charging you $18 for this gift card they are giving you. Is it worth it? In my opinion unless you need the flex pay, NO.

The old Fire always sold for $199 except for the occasional Amazon special on refurbished for $159. The one on HSN has the same features as the original except for some improvement in speed. It sells on Amazon for $159 and is 8 GB. The 16GB Fire is $199 on Amazon.

I don't get the paper and I checked both sites and I didn't find the deal. Is there anyway you can see which place had the deal? My daughter is buying one for a Christmas gift. Thanks!

I agree..it is ridiculous!!

As for getting a stylus...I bought a lot of 10 of them on Ebay for around $5.00 including shipping. DH has an Ipad and likes to use a stylus with it but he's always losing them!

KF HD doesn't have an SD slot, but FYI B&N Nook HD does.

FWIW, I just researched 7" tablets having decided now was the time for me to jump in. I considered iPad mini, Nexus 7, Galaxy, KF HD and Nook HD. I won't go into all the details, but I decided on the Nook HD and I love it. Reasons: according to expert reviews (CNET, etc.), Nook HD has best resolution of all the mini's, comparable to the iPad 4th gen. retina display; it's faster than the Kindle HD; and it has e-ink technology making it a better reader than the Kindle HD. Granted, there are limitations to the Nook--no camera, fewer apps, but those things didn't matter to me. I want it for reading, playing games, internet browsing. I meets my needs, and I've found plenty of games that I love (that keep me up 'til 3 AM -- ugh). I totally love it.

I bought it on Amazon on black Friday for @$129 ... yep, same one. Already have a pair of ear buds, thank you.

Office Depot.

At their site, click on "Weekly Ad" (top row of stuff). It's on the front page of that ad.

Someone started a rumor that this is the old Kindle Fire but it is NOT. It's the new one that is the TS. They sold the old Fire in the past. The TS price is the same as Amazon & has free ship & 5-Flex Pays. A great way to try it out. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I personally find SD cards over-rated today in the era of cloud storage. You get free cloud storage for Amazon content @ Amazon. Unless you want to carry around a large # of movies on the actual device, don't see the need for an SD card with 8gb. I never get close to that on any device, which may be the key because most people today have content (photos, videos, books, movies) spread among multiple devices.

You're mistaken ... it's the same "refurbished" Kindle Fire @ 8GB that Amazon is selling now for $159 ... it's not the HD version @16GB which sells for $199 at Amazon.

Sadly both HSN and QVC are quilty of phrasing their sales pitches to indicate an older model is a new model. While this isn't the original Kindle that now sells for about $70 on Amazon it is an older and for the same price you can get the HD model with twice the memory.

People that have to use the five easy pays will get a decent Kindle but if you can afford to pay it in one payment obviously the Amazon $199 HD 16g model is a better buy.

Oh shoot, no HD? I'd totally hold out for HD myself but some people likely wouldn't care. The clarity is still awesome on the HD-less KF.

For lots of people, the only way they would ever see a KF (or IPad) is with flex/value/easy pays. Just a personal decision for shoppers. Plus you'd get 2 months to decide if you loved it/would use it. It's a trade off, for sure, that I wouldn't take but many people would & do on all networks.

Not a good deal at all but they are suckering in alot of people. And you really don't need an SD slot because Amazon has free cloud storage. The cord to charge with your computer comes with it anyway so all they are giving are the earbuds & stylus. I have an HD, love it.

People that need easy pay can actually put the Kindle HD from Amazon on their credit card. If they pay it off in 5 months the interest paid on that cc wouldn't be close to the $40 price difference paid on HSN.

Yes sad that both channels will add all the extras and people get suckered in on the overpriced add ons and the easy pay. If you figure out the extra you are paying you can usually get it for less with even paying interest if you have to. Most of these add ons can be purchased very cheaply on ebay.

You will LOVE it! I haven't read books for years and I am back into reading. Love all the games, movies, books, productivity apps!

If mine quit, I'd have to have a new one immediately!

I would give up my computer over my Kindle Fire HD, I'm not joking!
