New Kindle Fire HD

Has anyone purchased the new Kindle Fire HD? If so, does it come with an A/C adapter? If so, can you check the plug to see if it is good for 110-240 volt service? Thanks.

They are not available yet. If you pre-order or get it at your local retailer, you have to wait until November - late in the month. I would suggest you call Amazon. They will be able to tell you.

Love to have one but still making up my mind. I think you have to buy the AC adapter separate. I am thinking of the Paperwhite instead or waiting for something else to come along. I guess I will never get one since I am become so indecisive with this. I am usually so impulsive.

You do have to purchase the kindle fire hd adapter seperately $9.99 from Amazon.

I believe its 100-240 V output. Charges quick too.

uses 9W of power

I'd wait on Paperwhite until they work out all the bugs!

You are talking about the larger ones. The 7" Fire HD's are available now as I have one.

To OP: You get a cord to plug it into your computer to charge. However there is an adapter to use in your wall outlet that you can buy from Amazon for $9.99 like the other poster said. It works much faster and more efficient that using your computer as a charger.

Yes. Mima. I finally pulled the trigger and decided on one for myself. I went with the 8.9" Kindle Fire HD. Today, I looked at the info for the iPad Mini and it is pretty costly. Of course, spend whatever you feel is the best for your budget. In all of the researching I did, I feel that the one I picked will fit my needs. If the iPad mini were less expensive, I might have cancelled the Kindle and tried it out. This will be my first tablet.

From gizmodo dot com, 10-23-2012:

If you were hoping for a $250 starting point, brace yourself for disappointment. It starts at $329 for the Wi-Fi only version, with 16GB of storage. The 32GB and 64GB are $429 and $529. If you want the LTE connectivity, you will have to pay $130 more.

The Kindle Fire HD and the Nexus 7 don't have LTE support at any price point (if you want LTE on the Fire HD, you have to get the 8.9-inch model, which is the competition to the iPad 4 starting at $499 for the 32GB model). On the Wi-Fi front, however, both Android tablets have a much better price, specially the Fire HD, which is $199 for the 16GB model. The $199 Nexus 7 will only get you 8GB.

It is one of the features. If you go to the Amazon website, it is explained better.

I found this at Wikipedia:

LTE an initialism of Long Term Evolution, marketed as 4G LTE, is a standard for wireless communication of high-speed data for mobile phones and data terminals. It is based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA network technologies, increasing the capacity and speed using a different radio interface together with core network improvements.[1][2] The standard is developed by the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) and is specified in its Release 8 document series, with minor enhancements described in Release 9.

The world's first publicly available LTE service was launched by TeliaSonera in Oslo and Stockholm on 14 December 2009. LTE is the natural upgrade path for carriers with GSM/UMTS networks, but even CDMA holdouts such as Verizon Wireless, who launched the first large-scale LTE network in North America in 2010, and au by KDDI in Japan have announced they will migrate to LTE. LTE is, therefore, anticipated to become the first truly global mobile phone standard, although the use of different frequency bands in different countries will mean that only multi-band phones will be able to use LTE in all countries where it is supported.

I have the Paperwhite... no bugs. It's absolutely wonderful.

I got the Kindle cover in fuschia, and ordered this skin from DecalGirl
