Are HP computers any good?

Started 1328375929.847 in Electronics Talk | Last reply 1328470534.81 by Kzeks

I need a new computer. I have always had Dell's and have really good luck with them. However, Best Buy has an HP on sale this week (today is the last day) and it looks like it has everything I need, but just not sure of the brand. I want to buy this in town so if I have any problems, I can just take it back. Or order one from Dell. The Dell is higher priced and I just didn't know if the extra $200 would be worth it. The Dell also has a larger monitor.

I'd appreciate any feedback on the HP. Thanks.

I have an HP netbook and just bought a laptop (HP) a couple of months ago. No problems with either. Had Dell and wouldn't go there again. Good luck!!! LM

I always had Dell computers..I just got a new one and

out of the box it did not work.... The quality service that

is always strewn to us was not there... No one cared..

They had the money and that is all that mattered...

After dealing with them for 2 awful unproductive days ..

the computer was returned but Dell said I had to pay

a 15% restocking fee for their trash...

When you buy any product.. Make sure that you have

a service contract that is honored....

We've 'sworn' by Dell's for as long as we have had home computers.. Just switched to an HP TouchSmart and love it!

I totally recommend HP. I have a laptop and have never had any problems with it.

I had a Dell before I bought my present laptop...a HP. I love the HP and it included lots Dell didn't. CS has been great with HP, not so much with Dell. It's going to be HP for me from now on...I've even got one of their printers. I don't think you could get a better computer. I say go for it!

I have an HP desktop and it's been good; I've also had them in the past and I've been satisfied. Dh also has an HP and he's very happy with it.

I would only buy a service contract from the computer manufacturer. Personally, I would not buy a "3rd Party" service contract (i.e. one that is not issued by, and backed by the manufacturer).

I've had an HP desktop and laptop for the last 15 years. I've never had a problem. My first HP desktop was still running well, but didn't have any more CPU memory expansion room, when I upgraded to a newer model two years ago.

P.S. Don't bother calling HP customer support after hours or on weekends, though, because you'll get the dreaded off-shore help desk. If you have a question or an issue, call during normal workday business hours.

Nine years ago I bought a Dell desktop. It did well over the years. I bought two Dell notebooks and returned them when they malfunctioned. My DH and I have had three HPs and been very happy with them. The other day I bought an HP touchsmart and it is wonderful.

I would advise any of you thinking of buying an expensive item to use your AMEX card. Why? Because AMEX warranties the product at no additional cost. I don't know if anyone remembers, but this summer I bought a tv for one of my bedrooms at Best Buy. I also bought their warranty. I used my AMEX card. Within a few weeks, while trying to set up the tv, I turned it upside down. It messed up the screen. I took it back to Best Buy. They said, "sorry! It stinks to be you, and by the way, that warranty covers zip!". So I called AMEX thinking they could maybe get me back my $10 for the warranty. The young woman said thet would refund me the money for the tv and their silly warranty. I said, "Wow! Do you want the TV"? She said. "No!". If I were you, I'd make sure of the stipulations. I guess I met them. I received a check for over $400.

I've seen a few HP computers that I like. I've always owned Dell and have never had any problems with my Dells. However, what about the news a few months ago that HP was going out of the personal computer end of their business? Anyone?

HP has hired a new CEO, and decided not to leave the computer biz.

I've been buying them for about 5 years; Acer before that. Have 3 HP laptops right now and like them all. Great keyboards--extremely stable, no squishyness. Solid build quality. I particularly like the Pavillion dm1 laptop, especially for under $500.

WE have always used AMEX for Trips & Hotels & for shopping,

especially for big ticket items... for over 30 years... I should

have know better...

I made the mistake of using my Debit card to purchase a TV

from QVC .."LG Brand".. that had a shadow to the right of the

screen...That became worst by 3 months & QVC said that I

had the TV for over 30 days & refused to do anything...

QVC was right..Their policy is 30 days...Good will zero...

If I had used my AMEX they would have disputed the problem

with QVC...
