A Net Book vs. Pad...Advice Please

Started 1306070786.437 in Electronics Talk | Last reply 1306758915.3 by FunNurse

I am interested in a net book, but many reviews here for different manufacturers are "so-so" at best.

I wanted something (net book or tablet) just to....surf the net...check email, facebook etc...nothing heavy duty.

I do have a traditional laptop for things that cant be accomplished with either a net book or tablet.

I was just looking for the easily portability of a net book or tablet

Any advice, pro or con...would be greatly appreciated

I don't have a netbook, but just got an iPad last week. I have to say that I LOVE it. It is so light weight & easily portable in my purse. It does everything you want to do plus it is an e-reader, mp3 and gaming device. I considered other tablets but with all the apps available, I decided on the iPad. I'm typing on it right now and it is not as fast as a normal keyboard (yet) but I've only had it for 3 days and is getting better each day! Good luck with your decision.

I have an iPad. Though it's nice in many ways I cannot watch qvc's product videos. I think same is true for any flash videos. YouTube is not a problem.

I'd been wondering the same thing. Upon actually seeing and using a a pad, I decided it's not for me... Just too flimsy. I also have my doubts about a netbook, and was then considering just another regular laptop but with a small screen for portability... I think though I might well simply defer any purchase for a bit and see what the market comes up with... You can almost bet that something newer and better will be on the horizon soon, or that one of the existing options will be "improved"...

You may want a PC tablet instead, I have a google android 2.2 tablet and flash works with it.

I think it depends on what you are going to use it for. If you are just searching and playing a tablet is great. If you are planning on doing a lot of typing on it, I'd go with a netbook....just something to consider.

I think the iPad is terrific. I got my iPad on the first day of its release last year. Email, Internet, streaming movies, games and the thousands of fun apps from Apple. I've been on it just about all day today. I type pretty fast on it. You get used to the keyboard very quickly.

Hound Dog, I'm glad I saw your post. I bought an iPad when they first came out. After using it for a week, I returned it. It wasn't what I was looking for. It couldn't do all the things a computer could. I bought an HP netbook @ Costco and I love it. I hardly ever use my laptop anymore. It is wonderfully portable, I can do excel, word. etc. The battery life is great. I have never had to recharge it during a use. HTH.

A friend of mine just got the IPAD, she loves it and I admit it does look exciting but I don't really understand the difference betweem a pad and a netbook as far as what it can or can't do. I do know that the IPAD is FAST as far as loading. I have a netbook, it's an Acer, 11. inch screen so it is a little bit bigger than most netbooks. It has a full sized keyboard and does EVERYTHING that my regular laptop does. I love my netbook, it's small and easily portable, does it all for me.

I've also been considering buying a netbook or a tablet. I'm hoping someone can answer my question, I'm wondering if you can watch "QVC Live TV" on a netbook or tablet?

You can watch QVC with the iPad, there is an app for that with live tv.

We got my 86 year old mom an I pad w an external keyboard she can just plug in to it. She just uses for email and surfing so it is great for her. Agreed that IPad not the best for broad needs.
