Best Percolator EVER !!

Started 1330555753.37 in Coffee Talk | Last reply 1358854630.197 by DiamondGirly

I have been searching for a coffee pot that turns out GOOD/HOT coffee and I've finally found it ! Walmart has a "GE" Percolator that is absolutely fantastic when it comes to 'hot coffee and great tasting coffee'. Percolators are hard to find - none for sale at all at our local BB & Beyond store. This one is GREAT!

I have a stove top one and it's the best coffee I have ever had-I would never use any thing else now.

The coffee is rich, hearty, hot and delicious!

I'm partial to perculators also. Don't care for the automatic drip or the cup on demand machines.

I've never used the GE the OP refers to, but I have rediscovered my love for the 1st percolator I ever owned, the Farberware Superfast. makes excellent coffee, and as the name suggests, it's fast. if your mom's not brewing coffee for a crowd, you might want to consider the little 4 cup.

Wow...you must have e.s.p.! I have been thinking about getting rid of my Keurig. I am the only one in my home who drinks coffee, but I realy enjoy a really good, hot cup of coffee and the Keurig is not doing it for me. I used to have a drip, but I really didnt care for that either -after the first cup the rest of the coffee tastes old and thick. The only think I like about the Keurig is it is quick and i can make one cup at a time, but I really miss a good cup of coffee. Ive never had a perculator - how do you use it? Can a make a small amount of coffee in it or do I have to make a full pot? Thank!

To DARCY3: The instructions come with the percolator and they are very simple. You don't have to make a "full pot". The instructions break it down for you from 2 cups (3 tablespoons of coffee) to 12 cups (8 - 12 tablespoons of coffee). As you use the percolator, you'll learn to adjust the amount of coffee to your liking.

To Catlover: What kind of coffeepot do you have that works on the stove?

Ohhh -thanks! Im going to check it out! Looking forward to Sunday morning, pjs, qvc, a good book and a great cup of coffee! I just checked out ebay for those vintage mugs that they serve coffee in at a diner. There is a local coffee place that uses those heavy mugs, like in a french cafe, and for some reason the coffee always tastes better in those mugs. Im going for the perculator!!! See you later keurig!

Would you mind posting the price as I am looking for one. I have been looking on ebay for the Faberware one.

Also, do you know how long it takes you to brew a full pot?

4 cup Farberware - K118680

Another perculator lover here! I have the Cuisinart single cup, nespresso and a Farberware 8 cup electric perc - I find myself using the Farberware more than the others. I got mine at Kohl's for about $55 with a coupon.

I found the heavy cafe cups thru The Vermont Store about 5 or 6 years ago. Love them! They're like "home" for me . . .

cheers!

Thanks, I do quite a bit of shopping on the Q and I can only assess my situation as brain dead because I never thought to look for one here on the Q. I just may go for the full size although the reviews are a bit nasty but I am chalking that up to not using it correctly except the one about the metal taste.

So funny this thread is up. I found my Mother's Revere Ware stove top percolator while I was going through stuff for donating.

I washed that baby up, and have been enjoying the most delicious coffee I have drunk in years. I use less coffee, the coffee is HOT, and the taste is so much better than a drip.

I am thinking about purchasing an electric percolater, and hooking it up with a timer.

I have that GE percolator from Walmart and it's great! I also have a Farberware pot, but the GE has a glass bubble top and there's just something about watching the coffee perk! My Farbewrware just has a plastic handle on the top. Not a big thing--just comes down to your preferance. Delicious hot coffee and makes the house smell divine while it's perking!

One tip for you percolator ladies--buy a box of Cascade dishwashing granules and run it through your percolator about once a week to keep the pot in topnotch working condition. I use two tablespoonfuls. Pot comes out sparkling clean and new-looking.

I don't like the plastic smell/taste of most drip coffee makers. Plastics have a strong odor now-a-days, I've noticed. Years ago, there wasn't the plastic odor. JMO Nothing beats nice stainless steel. Or old-fashioned glass. IMO

I use dishwashing granules for my stainless steel drip coffee maker carafe. Just put 1/4 cup in and then fill with hot water. Leave it alone for about 30 minutes then rinse, rinse, rinse.

Edited to add: Oh, I might just look for one with a glass bubble top.

I LUV my Farberware electric percolator. I've been using this brand for many years. Great - hot coffee. This is my 3rd one - and I purchased each one at Bed, Bath & Beyond, using their 20% off coupon.

Use my 4-cup Farberware every morning. In the afternoons & evenings I rotate between my 4-cup stovetop CorningWare percolator & my 4-cup stovetop Pyrex blue-fame percolator. Nothing beats perked coffee. I have collected many different kinds of electric & stove-top percolators. At least if I break or damage one, I'll always have a spare! Enjoy your coffee.

I think I'll try the Walmart GE percolator. I've had a few small 4-cup stainless steel electric percolators, which I loved. I do like the idea of the glass top.....love watching the coffee "perc"!

Yes, it was/is a fast one! This thread is prompting me to re-discover and re-purchase stainless steel percolators!

Best coffee I ever had, and I can remember, was my mother's made in her Revere Ware stainless stovetop pot with copper bottom and glass bubble insert in cover to watch it perk! Then she switched to Farberware electric 12 cup because she neeed to make more at one time and that was excellent also!

What goes around comes around.
