Forever WEN for thin, fine hair

Started 1277604293.117 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1285246120.11 by 4downtheshore

Saw the recent threads on WEN and had to share my story. I have thin, fine hair due to menopause and genetics and have used WEN for about 9 months. It makes my hair soft, shiny and the best part is after using it regularly, I only need to cleanse my hair every third or fourth day. Before WEN, I used to wash my hair daily and who knows how many precious strands of hair went down the drain. :-(

Yesterday, I was in a hurry to go out to a movie and washed my hair quickly with my old hair thickening shampoo and conditioner. Big mistake! My hair looked like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket - frizz and dry. I didn't enjoy the movie at all because my scalp itched continuously. I could hardly wait to go home and sooth my hair and scalp! I treated myself to an intense WEN experience and am happy to report that my hair returned to the soft, shiny and clean state immediately. I swear that I will never, ever use any shampoo again!

To those who say WEN is too expensive, I think that I am saving money and my hair too since I no longer shampoo daily. I don't spend money on special mousse, thickening agents, conditioners and sprays. The only additional WEN product I use is the replenishing spray. It really helps keep my hair soft and fresh looking between cleansing.

If you try WEN, use it daily for at least a week and follow the instructions. After time, you will see a difference and will not need to cleanse as frequently. I use half Tea Tree and half Lavender to get the best results for my hair type. Have patience if you try WEN. With continued use, I hope you will enjoy beautiful hair again!

I have the same hair as you and my hair has never looked worse over time. It's a greasy mess within a day after cleansing. Glad it works for you though. I can't wait to finish my gallons that I bought last year.

Bought some Loreal Pure and TreSemme Natural and voila...my old shiny lustrous hair again.

I like WEN also. I especially like it when I'm in a rush. I must admit I also use Ojon though. I think they're both excellent. My hairdresser doesn't even try to sell me anything anymore. I also use pure argan oil, just the stuff left on my hands after applying to my face and arms, on my hair and oh boy!!! very very soft and shiny,

You might want to give Josie Maran Pure Argan Oil a try. Sephora carries a small bottle for only $14.

thank you for posting your experience w/wen. I've been using wen since Aug 2006 and can't imagine using anything else. I have fine hair as well....I use all flavors of wen. There is a learning curve w/wen and even though some people say they follow the instructions I often have difficulty believing them. I've seen women with all different hair types at Chaz's studio and wen works on ALL of them.

I'm with you, Bruingirl! There is a DEFINITE learning curve. It took me 3 tries to get it right, but now that I have, I won't use anything BUT WEN. I have found that for me, the trick is in the scalp massaging and scalp RINSING. Love it!

Yes coco, I probably am accused of working for them, I brag on it so much. I wouldn't be without it. Use it for hair, face and body as a lotion and just about everything. I rub it on my eyelids when my eyes feel dry -- and my eyes are supersensitive too all makeup, etc. Somehow this is great for them.

Let me suggest that, if you have not discovered, the different ways of ordering, makes a great difference sometimes in the amount you pay per ounce. When they present a configuration of bottles of the Cleanser/Conditioner, figure each presentation by the ounce and you will be surprised -- or I was -- at the difference. Sometimes, even the gallon jug is not the least expensive buy -- unless you are extra particular about which "flavor" you get. However, I do also buy the gallon jug.

Just hope they keep it coming. Usually, when I find something I really like, it goes away.

I love my WEN too. I can't go back to traditional shampoo. Once for giggles, I used my old Ojon Hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Yikes! In the trash it went!

I love Wen but my hair is fine and flyaway and no matter what I do, it gets this way with anything including Wen. Now that it is shorter, I use a lot of paste and product to make my hair have some kind of body, lift and life so I must wash my hair every two days and my scalp is oily so it needs it by then. How do I make my Wen go further? Its just so expensive!

I think you should try mixing some of the Sally Hair One with Wen to extend your dollars. I am rediscovering Wen as I've had some from several years ago and didn't like it but after watching Friday Night Beauty and Chaz's presentation Saturday AM, I tried the Wen again (Aloe/Cucumber) and liked that result so then I went to Sally's and got the Tea Tree and mixed the two this morning and I also liked the results. I've had issues with shampoos in the past that had aloe in it - an itchy scalp, and I hear the Tea Tree is a good option for that so the combination was good. There are a lot of positive comments on Makeup Alley and Sally's website so you might want to check out the comments to decide what combination might work for you. I do have some more Wen on order and can't wait until I receive the Lavender Voluminzing Treatment spray.

I use WEN at least once a week or about every other cleansing... I have added a squirt of other conditioner to the WEN to make it go further....great results...or on shampoo days I use WEN as a regular conditioner. Enjoy.

I just asked a question about this same thing: WEN for thin hair. I didn't see this post though, when I wrote it - sorry!

A couple of thoughts.... First, try Living Proof's Full thickening cream, or even their No-Frizz cream after cleansing. both are great for adding body and keeping the style going. Next suggestion is to try using less Wen. Use a little product, work into and through hair, rinse, and repeat. You'll may be surprised at how little product you actually need for great results.

Thanks for sharing your story. When I was younger I always wanted that "shiny straight hair" that so many girls had - and I always had the wavy, on the verge of frizzy, "unshiny" hair. Wen is the only product that has given me that (well minus the straight) LOL. And now since I have the shiny and awesomely health looking hair - the large waves of curls are fabulous and I'm not as jealous as I once was of the straight haired chicks that I so envied. Thanks for the Wen products - I think they are wonderful! (won't be without them)! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

thanks for this write up. I have the same type of hair. Fine and thin due to menopause and genetics. Which WEN product would be best for me? Is the tea tree oily?

I had the same problem even though I rinsed my hair for what seemed like forever. It may also be my hard water causing the problem. Started using Loreal pure from recommendations on the BB, and my hair is better than ever. I also found that by using Loreal, my hair has alot of body and curls that actually hold!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Thanks cocolvr7! I'm SO glad you found Wen and that it works for you. I have a similar story... very thin hair due to PCOS and menopause after a complete hysterectomy. On top of that, my hair is also naturally wavy/curly and was quite dry, damaged, and frizzy... but no more! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I've been using Wen for about 2.5 months now and will NEVER allow shampoo to touch my hair again! I agree that Wen may seem expensive, but the benefits FAR outweigh the cost for me! (When money gets really tight, I do use Hair One for some cleansings which works ok for me, but IMO Wen is MUCH better and MUCH preferred! I always use Wen as my leave-in though!)

I did had a learning curve as well... first couple of cleansings were pretty bad... but I stuck it out, got GREAT advice on this board, and played around with it until I figured out what works best for me! I use Fig CC (not crazy about SAM... haven't had a chance to try the others yet), Fig oil (when this is gone, I'm switching to a mix of argan / coconut / jojoba oils I mix myself), Fig styling creme, and Fig Replenishing Spray. I cannot WAIT to try the Remoist, as I think it will do wonders for me!

I know not every product works for everyone... but Wen has been a MIRACLE for me and I'm thankful every day that I took a chance and gave it a try!

I have tried all the Wen options, and love each one for a different reason.I got the TS last December on AD, and I switch out flavors. Right now I am using the Fig, I used the Tea Tree yesterday. I just love Wen ,and nothing else I have tried compares to it.

People have to decide what is right for them, there is no right or wrong. I love Wen and plan on continuing using it. We each have to find what is right for ourselves.

Beautyguru..I have the same hair type.I think tea tree and sweet almond mint are the best.I like cucumber aloe too but I don't think it gives my hair as much body as the other two.I don't like the smell of the lavender so I'm not sure if that one gives the most volume.I know it's supposed to be good for that but I just don't like the scent.The great thing about WEN is I used to put so much styling product in my hair for volume and now I just use a small amount of the replenishing mist on my ends and use light hairspray for hold.The medium round spornett brush sold on chazdean.com does wonders for body also.Hope this helps.
