Wen and hair loss

Started 1273801946.72 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1296072586.323 by tk73

I have been using Wen for a couple of months and I love it but I have noticed my hair falling out a lot more. Does this happen to anyone else.  My hair doesn't seem any thinner.

Do you notice less hair coming out in your brush or while blow drying? I do. I have a lot that comes out in the shower, probably because of the massaging in of the product, but less while drying.

I have a lot that comes out in the shower when I comb it though. I rarely ever blow dry my hair. I usually let it air dry. It comes out through out the day but no more than usual. It mostly comes out in the shower by the handfuls. My hair is extremely thick, colored treated blonde highlights and I think Wen loosing up the dead hair and makes it come out easier because my hair isn't any thinner.

I have had the opposit happen to me.  I had been losing a lot of hair and my hair has really thinned in the last year.  I have been using Wen 3 for weeks now and noticed less hair in the shower drain 4 days after I started using Wen.  I don't know if it's the Wen that's helped with my hair loss, but I will continue using it until I notice my hair falling out again. Who knows, maybe my scalp had become sensitive to the ingredients in regular shampoo and causing my hair to fall out.

I have to agree with MissElmo, after my first kid my hair started falling out and I was only 19 after the second one MORE hair loss and with my third one it was hair loss and weak strand I notice the weak strands because I had pulled a fallen hair off my shirt and it was stuck and instead of it coming off it broke off in half and in quater and a 1/3 and I wasn't even yanking it out it was one of those careful pull to make sure you got the hair. I was shocked and in fear. When I discover Wen I could have cried after the 2nd use I was so please and notice results right away. Not to mention no more Drano. What a product!!!

I have noticed that when I'm in the shower, more hair comes out, HOWEVER back before I was using WEN and Ojon, I used to have tons of hair all over my sink from blowdrying and when I style.  I don't have that anymore...at all!  My partner experiences the same thing as well!

Had to change my account once again due to ID issues............*sigh*

I had a ton of hair loss with WEN. It also make my scalp really itchy. Clearly it didn't agree with me. I had to stop using it. I've seen several similar posts from others who suffered hair loss with this product. Not sure if you can still access old posts after they redid the board, but do a search and see if anything come up.

I think you see more hair in the shower because you work Wen through your hair then comb it through, which you don't do with ordinary shampoo and conditioner.I see much less in my brush and comb, though.

Lost alot of hair, and made my scalp very itchy,  dont need that !  It also did nothing for my hair, it was stringy,  and I have posted about this many times before....ruined my carmel highlights,  they turned to pale blonde....not happy !!  Will never use again {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

I think that we lose some more hair with Wen because it has so many oils in it.  I think the oils loosen the hair from the scalp.

I've been noticing alot more hair loss with wen.  I'm glad to know it's probably from wen and not anything else.

I have to admit that my suspicion of excessive hair loss was what forced me to move on from Wen too - my shower drain literally clogged up.  But I fully realize that it's sometimes too easy to confuse correlation w/ causation and it may have just purely been a timing coincidence; I'm pretty much an ingredient nut and I definitely couldn't see any reason for the issue based on the ingredient deck.

I just cleaned my drain today and have never had that much hair in it.  I will stop Wen for sure, it's not worth losing my hair to save the color highlights.

I don't believe it makes your hair fall out.  I believe we see the hair more because there is no suds residue.  With a soapy shampoo, all the hair is rinsed down the drain.

Although WEN made my hair silky and smooth, it made my hair fall out as well.  Matter of fact, I kept reusing it thinking it was something else.  Now I have a slight bald spot.  I will never use this again.  If your hair is falling out, you may be allergic to the menthol.

If you have no allergic reactions to this shampoo, I believe it is one of the best cleansers for healthy hair.

You can believe whatever you want. However, my evaluation of WEN was not only based on the amount of hair that clogged my drain every time I used it, but by the bald spot it left on my itchy scalp. "Soapy" shampoo never left me with a bald spot. Not all products work for all people. It's just a fact.

I certainly agree that not all products work for all people. I often read reviews and wonder if it's "just me" that a product doesn't work on.  Oddly enough, for myself, wen is a winner. Hubby loves it and so does my daughter....OUCH$$$$$.  We really seem to like it though and no hair loss for us.....yet. I really researched it before I took the plunge and many people experience hair loss.  Like I said, I'll keep using it.  If hair loss/bald spots occur, I will be sure to post it.....as soon as I regain my composure! I find that the extra scalp massage during the process of using Wen does remove loose hairs. But those hairs would have fallen out onto my shoulders during the following day, or on my comb or brush anyway. So it's a wash (bad pun.)

I have stopped using Wen because of hair loss also. The drain had to be cleaned out twice within a short period of time. I am sorry to say I had ordered the gallon and never sent it back as I should have. {#emotions_dlg.sad}  The worst and most costly item I have ever purchased from QVC, had it on easy pay and thought I would never get it paid for.

I wanted to thank you all for bringing this up. I too had been losing clumps of hair and had very thick hair - but lost a bunch of it, never attributed to shampoo, thought it was my thyroid or stress. I stopped using this shampoo and noticed it is back to normal only a few hairs lost a day.

I was using the Lavendar version - what were all of you using?

I hope the hair I lost will come back, but it is still thick, just not as thick as it was.

I hope thing resolve for all of you. God bless, Meezer

I definitely saw hair loss when I used Wen. I switched to Kenra and stopped losing hair. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but I'm not willing to try the Wen again and risk losing more hair.

Being a hair dresser for over 20 years, I learned it's normal for a person to loose between 50-100 hairs a day....Massaging will not loosen hair..It stimulates the hair folicles & probably enhances your hair growth.. Perhaps if you comb your hair in the shower, then you would obviously notice more loose hair...Also, when hair is short you don't notice the loss as when your hair is long.........Then again, if so many of you are losing more than the usual, try using another shampoo for a week or two, condition your hair & comb it in the shower..Do you notice the same hair loss?? Some may be alergic to an ingredient in wen nonetheless...

I've never used wen & it doesn't seem to interest me currently, so I'm not a spokesperson for it...I just wanted to give you my perspective..
