Is there a flat iron that is gentle on the hair?

That kind of heat is never good for your hair

Probably not. Just use a heat protectant spray.

Thank you. I never used one and wondered if one was better over another as some of the prices are so high! I thought the higher priced flat irons had something special that didn't burn the hair. You are right. Heat is heat and it is damaging.

Because I have very coarse curly hair the cheap 20 dollar ones dont work on me. I had one from pennies I paid about 50 for and it worked great. Right now I use a chi which I got as a christmas gift and was about 79.99. Depending on your hair type a cheap one might work. My suggestion is go some place like target. Pick up a cheaper one and an expensive one. Try them on different days and see if you see a difference. Then return the one you dont want. Target carries some chi flat irons.

I got a tourmaline Chi at Target. $99 with Case. It has not damaged my hair.

Use an oil or leave in protector before using! Makes your hair so soft!

Corliss at HSN is tourmaline and works great on fine hair. Does not burn.

A gentle flat iron? Probably not, but I believe some of the better ones are less harmful. I've had a very good experience using a CHI Volumizing Flat Iron (actually bought three of them from QVC). The CHI has a temperature adjustment button so I don't use the maximum heat. I also don't let the iron remain on a section of hair for any length of time - just keep it moving.

I've got a T3 tourmaline. It's unbelievable how drying they are on your hair. I can't imagine daily use and over years and years. I use mine sparingly.

Just came across this list of the top ten flat irons ...

My hairdresser is a big fan of the SEDU products and she uses them ALL day long.

Hope this helps!

And I've been flat ironing for like 10 years. My hair is soft and shiny. Just have to take care of your hair and have it trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Nothing worse than ugly split dry ends.
