Cost of 4% Hydroquinone

Started 1362608944.087 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1362618684.18 by PBJ

I mistakenly had my MD forward a script for 4% Hydroquinone to a local pharmacy without comparing prices at competing stores. My bad!! The price was $70. I suspect that's not a competitive price. Also, is there a difference in price between the gel and the cream? Any recommendations, ladies?

Thanks in advance...

I just checked at Costco and the price varies on the size of the tube:

29 grams is $17.81

58 grams is $29.92

87 grams is $40.93

This is for the generic cream.

It's super cheap at All Day Chemist.

yes, the overseas India-type pharmacies sell the small tubs for 3.00. However, I purchased my Retin A 1% at the India pharmacy for 4.00, but I found that comparable to my United States Retin A (56.00), the USA product was superior.

I meant small "tube" to be 3.00 - not tub! Big difference!

Profrobb, I purchased 4% hydroquinone many times over the years by prescription. One time (years ago) I even paid $150 for it. NEVER AGAIN. A few years ago, I came to my senses, Googled "purchase 4% hydroquinone" and purchased some for $15. No prescription, not overseas. Looks like the site is I purchased from is out of business now. BUT, I found something that works quicker and way more effectively than hydroquinone-MaxiPeel #4 Exfoliant. It's a liquid blend of 25mg of Tretinoin and 4g of Hydroquinone. It's online everywhere-Amazon, Ebay, etc. I got mine under $10 or $15. BUT, even though I've used Retin A, Tretinoin, Hydroquinone and a million other prescription products in the past, this product is very strong on my skin. Results within days-much quicker than ANY prescription I've used. I ONLY spot treat the dark spot using a QTip. If I get it anywhere on my skin around the dark spot, it causes hypopigmentation (light spot). I'm not free of all of the dark spots, but it's a significant difference. I don't use it everyday because of the peeling. HTH.

Poor but Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
