Ok,,here's my side. I live in a VERY religious state (Utah) land of the mormons. Although I believe in the bible and Im not a mormon,,lots of mormons are believing this mayan thing..so, I don't get how they can say they believe the bible,,but then say things like "the Mayans have been right on alot of stuff"..etc. I don't believe its the end either,,but I love to hear y'all's ideas.

I think the deal about the Mayan calendar is that it simply did not continue beyond that date, the 12/21. It's other people who are making assumptions that the Mayans probably never intended.

I believe they "saw" that there was going to be a planetary alignment, which will herald some kind of "cosmic" shift...that certain things will be/become very different. Think of the economic situation most of the world is in, us included, and the fulfillment of the UN resolutions. The arm of the [world] government will be shifting as well.

Anyone who believes in it can send me all their property since they believe they won't need it after next week.

I have a friend that got a huge job promotion & his first day is 12/21. You work so hard to get to a point in your life then....phtttt! Told him we'll have lunch on 12/22 & laugh about the timing of this.{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Years ago, my Mother told me; "Its not important when the world ends, that's up to God". "The point is being able to tell him, I did the best I could." If you try to be a good person and not deliberately hurt anyone along the way what is there to be afraid of? I don't believe the world will end. But if it does, I'll see my Mom a little sooner than I thought and get to catch up with all my relatives that have passed before me. A family reunion of sorts. God is love, Whats to be afraid of?{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I don't believe it'll be the end of the world, I think they just got fed up with the job and quit! I'd hate to have had that job. When the end happens, there's not much that we can do about it so why worry about it?

So, what do you think it means when The Bible says "all our righteousness is like filthy rags" to God?
What does it mean when it says, "There is none righteous, no not one" or "Not by works of righteousness that we have done, but according to His mercy has He saved us"?

I think The Scriptures are very specific and that we are all able to know what God wants us to do in order to spend eternity with him. I couldn't go through life just hoping I'd get lucky. I also believe the Bible when it says it's not for us to know the day of Christ's return and for that reason, I don't believe anyone can predict the end of the world.

For one thing, the Mayan calendar did not include leap years, so the date 12/21/12 based on the Mayan calendar is LONG past.

If you a Christian, God says you will not know the date of the end of the world.

And if it does end next Friday, I won't have to correct my students' finals!{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Here is Matthew 24:36-37:

36 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

If you believe the Bible, here is your answer. I enjoy talking about things like this though and look forward to reading everyone's responses.

The fact that the Mayans do not even say the world is ending in 2012 and the first they've heard of it was fairly recently, tells me that the whole thing is yet another silly rumor spread by who knows. The Mayan calendar DOES end on that day but a new one begins so the whole thing was misunderstood by many. Not surprising to think that so many people misinterpret something and then spread that misinterpretation around as fact. It happens all the time on these and other forums in many aspects. My little boy's birthday is that day so it IS a special day for us, but not because the world is going to end.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...but becomes something entirely different when someone STEALS your ideas and claims the credit for themselves.

It's NOT the Mayan's prophecy. It's the misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar by others who are not experts in Mayan history and culture. The Mayans believe in eras. This era is supposed to end and a new one begin. It has NOTHING to do with the end of the world. People just love to chomp on that misinterpretation because it makes for good entertainment. On 12/22/12, when we are all still here, it won't be the Mayans that were wrong. It'll be all of those who misinterpreted their calendar because of ignorance.
