My review of pantene AgeDefy Advanced Thickening Treatment

Started 1353948657.597 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1361209312.817 by GmaJewele

I have fine, thin hair that is very prone to breakage, not colored, and it's to my shoulders.

I have been using this for about 3 weeks now. I used it every day, on wet hair when I washed my hair and on dry hair if I didn't. I used it according to package directions. It even feels nice when I'm rubbing it on my scalp, and doesn't take long at all. I didn't think I was going to like it because I didn't notice anything different with my hair for the first 2 weeks. It certainly didn't do anything as a "styling" product, but I don't think that's what it was meant to be. However, after about 2 weeks of using this I have noticed that my hair is fuller and has more bounce and volume. I actually have more hair (maybe because it's not breaking) and it has made it shinier! I don't need to use as much of my styling products. Oh, and I am not using the shampoo and conditioner.. just the thickening treatment. I am definitely going to keep using this. It's worth the price to me.

THank you for the review. It's good to know it takes a little time to work. I was thinking of purchasing too.

Yesterday was the first day, in a little over a month that I didn't use it. I was anxious to see if it had any lasting effect after this length of time. I was pleasantly surprised. My hair had more volume, and did feel thicker. I have been using the Age Defy Shampoo and conditioner, too. My hair was shiny and just looked so much healthier. The split ends seemed to be much less noticeable. Personally, to me, these products are keepers, and are doing what they claim to do.

Pixie Rn - where were you able to get this product? I remember reading about it in Allure Magazine, but Amazon.com says it is only available for pre-order and won't be available until Feb. 18th, 2013. Is there a store near you that is selling it already? Please share.

I first ordered it from soap.com. They have free shipping, too. A week ago, I found it at my local Wal-mart which really surprised. I live in rural SW Oklahoma, in a town of about 20,000 which includes an Air Force base. Wal-mart is really the only place we have to shop. Most everything I buy is online. If you live near a big Wal-mart, Target they might have it. If not, try soap. com. They have very fast shipping, too. I think they have released it early. Let me know if you are able to find it. I just checked at soap.com amd it is avaliable, along with the shampoo and conditioner. Last edited on 11/26/2012

I saw the Pantene Age Products on an endcap at Target last night. I wasn't familiar with them and stopped to check them out. I almost bought all 3 but thought I'd wait for a review. Now I'm thinking I need to get them. Thanks for the reviews!!

Was in CVS earlier today buying some necessities and decided to look through the Pantene products. Lo and behold, there was one box on the shelf. I almost ordered it yesterday on Drugstore.com and now am glad I didn't. If you're looking for this product, perhaps your local CVS will have it also. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Let me know how you guys like the shampoo and conditioner. I didn't get those, but would like to know how they work with the thickening treatment.

I sure hope you guys like this as well as I do! Remember, give it about 2 weeks or so.. and don't expect it to be a styling product. At least on my hair it wasn't.

My Walmart did not have it last night.

I would be very concerned about the polymers - plastics - in this product. They can't be good for the hair and scalp long-term.

The directions have you pumping the spray on your scalp and then blowdry the product essentially baking the plastics into the hair, including the scalp/follicle level.

Ingredients: Alcohol Denat., Water, Niacinamide, PEG/PPG 20/23 Dimethicone, Caffeine, Acrylates/C10 30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fragrance, Panthenol, Triethanolamine

I have the shampoo and conditioner. It makes my hair so soft and silky that my 7 hairs look like 6{#emotions_dlg.scared}

I have been playing with combinations of other shampoos to remedy this.

I will definitely try the Treatment.

moonstone dunes,

I'm concerned about those ingredients, too. I have yet to find a shampoo or treatment, however, that really worked as a thickening agent without polymers galore though. Do you know of one?

I started using the Thickening Treatment about a week ago and I'm seeing results without blowdrying. My hair has always been baby fine and not thick. I've had two bouts of excessive shedding (telogen effluvium) without regrowth and was really starting to freak out. This product is making a difference and I'm not going to worry about the polymers until and if there's a recall. lol, hoping that doesn't happen!

There is NOTHING in this deck that would do anything for your hair. The FIRST ingredient is ALCOHOL!!!!! Maybe niacinamide could do something, but this deck is terrible.

That's because all its doing is coating the hair. Anything that makes your hair that "silky" is not moisturizing the hair. It is COATING it.

I found this:

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) : a necessary component for cell metabolism, Niacinamide participates in the synthesis of hormones and proteins. It stimulates blood circulation in the skin and activates the oxygen transport to hair follicles. This stimulates hair growth and provides an additional moisturizing and emollient effect.

I don't know if this is true or not, but it's the third ingredient...
