Green or Blue Veins? This Determines Your Makeup Colors

Started 1341330453.973 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1341454293.357 by KatCat1

Rachel Ray had a MUA on today and she said if your veins are blue you are a cool and if your veins are greern you are a warm. To me this is not accurate. I am definate a warm because I have yellow undertones a MUA told me his years ago and I always thought I was a cool. But,I have blue veins. So some things don't work for everyone!!This MUA was on HSN and has her own line of Make Up her name is Cynde Watson. She also said foundattion should be tested on your jaw and I was told on your neck

Definite blue veins here! And I'm cool, I have pink undertones. Even though the rule works for me, I agree with you, there's not a single rule to determine warm vs. cool.

I am definitely a warm complexion as I have green veins and yellow undertones. There is no uncertainty for me. I look better in clear, warm colors and I am a true Spring. You know it when you see it.

Green veins here and I am warm toned. Cool tones, especially in makeup colors looks horrible on me.

Blue veins here. I am fair/cool with pink toned skin.

In Prescriptives foundation, I am a Blue/Red (B/R).

This is me, too. Definitely cool.

Does everyone know instinctively what they are? The shades you naturally gravitate to?

And I agree with you about there's not a single rule. You also have to consider your natural hair color. Anything else? Eye color? (Maybe not so much) I just know I don't like seeing anything mis-matched.

I have mostly green veins and I would say that I am warm toned.

However, my veins look blue on the underside of my arms. {#emotions_dlg.confused1} I do wear cooler colors as well, but warm colors look best on me. Maybe I can pull off both looks because I have both color veins...

OK. Nobody laugh. But I swear I can't tell if my veins are blue or green. They seem to be dark turquoise! No joke.

me too! I guess that's why they make some lines in a neutral tone. Actually, I think I have green and blue veins.

I'm another one with blue veins and definitely yellow skin tones. I'm very fair - maybe that makes a difference as to whether the veins thing works?

I'm another with the dark turquoise veins.... It took me forever to figure out I'm neutral. Since I have blue eyes and sunburn easily I thought I MUST be cool, but now I look for makeup and haircolor that has names like "natural" or "beige."

I am also cool and I was told at the Lancome Counter that a person who was warm could not wear a cool foundation but a person that was cool could wear cool and still get by wearing warm also. I can wear both but my preference is cool but I have a couple of foundations that are warm and they look okay. Hope that makes sense but it does work for me being a cool tone person. {#emotions_dlg.wub} Beauty lesson of the day.

As far as testing your foundation and color matching, every line and every artist has a different preference. Some like Bare Escentuals match in the middle of your face, some like Estee Lauder and Clinique match at jaw, and my friend who works for Lancome matches on the chest. Most all companies and artists prefer not to match the neck because it is so much lighter than the rest of your body. It all depends on what you want to match.

I was told the vein thing when I worked at EL, but it is not true for me. I have blue veins and my skin is very yellow. But then the cool vs. warm varies from lines too as some like Mac use pink as warm since that is how it is on the color wheel and most other lines use pink as cool.

There is absolutely no right answer when it comes to anything in make-up. It is all preference.

My veins are also a light turquoise color. I know I'm warm - no doubt about it! I was a model years ago for an original color matching outfit, and later on I had a friend who started her own business and used me as a model too! I've been interested ever since! Most of the makeup companies I used products from before QVC would match my foundation to my jaw line. Smile

Mine are blue/green ( some reference to turquoise ) with neutral skintone. My skintone leans toward cool.

Part of my veins are blue and part are green. {#emotions_dlg.laugh} I can also wear It foundations light (pink undertone) or medium (yellow undertone). To me my skin has a yellow undertone but I look better with pinkish. Go figure.

Gotta love these neatsy little "rules" - I suppose they work for some people.

Color Me Beautiful has a quiz that helps to determine whether a person is cool or warm and the season. Also, there are exceptions to everything, as we all know.

I'm a cool by the standards but consider myself a neutral.

Since we are discussing veins, I just have to mention I have been starting IVs for over 40 years and some ladies are lucky they can even see their veins :) :) The condition of your skin can alter the appearance of the veins which is why the color is hard to determine at different times of the year. I, myself, just a light med neutral. At least today!!

Oh wow, it finally makes sense now that my blue/green veins point to neutral! I could never figure out the vein thing since my color is a mix.

Interesting! Thanks for the info! That's why I go by how I look in certain colors instead! Smile
