Facial Moisturizer for extremely dry skin?

Started 1296161293.553 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1296505818.17 by bellamack

Hello all,

I am 42 years old and looking for suggestions for a new facial moisturizer. I have extremely dry skin in several areas on my face. Mainly around my nose, smile lines, and under eye area. Most creams are not "goopy" enough and my face feels tight and dry within an hour.

For years I have used Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream simply because it makes my face feel moist and not tight. It is too greasy to apply make-up so I have the problem of smeared eye liner, concealer not staying put and going into my wrinkles, etc.

Please help! I need something to really moisturize and work under make-up. Smile

You will love the Shea Nilotica from SheaTerraOrganics.com.

I use their Rooibos cream (which has SN in it) over Argan or Marula oil on my face, but for really, really intensely dry skin (like on my arms) I use the Shea Nilotica.

ETA: use coupon code jan30 for 30% off.

Also, the Wei East White Lotus line of face creams (day and evening) are the heaviest moisturizers I've found for my over-60 skin. They really help me in these dry winter months.

Like you I have suffered with dry skin. For me it is the first time in my life. And it is DRY!!

I have used plenty of expensive and some cheaper stuff as well. It works and my skin feels good for a while but doesn't last.

I'm trying the STO products and hoping that my skin will be moist more than just on the surface. My skin on my body is even really dry. What I have used just since yesterday from STO has really helped and my skin feels better.

I wish you luck on whatever you try out. I know the battle and it is miserable.

Eucerin Original (not the Q10 stuff) - greasy but really hydrates. I give it 5-10 minutes to soak in and then pat off the excess. To avoid smudging under my eyes I use a little dry powder compact on my lids and undereyes beofre applying my foundation. This helps prevent my makeup from sliding around and smudging off in my eye area.

Sometimes you just need to take a nap and get over it.

I suggest 100% Pure's Healing Balm which is available here at QVC or direct from 100% Pure...

This is not cream. A little goes a long way. It may seem oily/greasy at first, but it will absorb into your skin quickly. Great for dry lips too.

Kate Somerville has some really nice stuff and Q will give you 30 days to try it, I think on her site you get 45 days but I rather go through Q.

I use Retin-A and live in a very dry climate, so my skin is constantly dry and peeling. My derm suggested Cetaphil (the one in the tub, not the pump), and I have had great results with that. It comes in a large tub, so it lasts forever, and also is very reasonably priced. Hope you have lots of new things to try!

Mary Kay has a wonderful original pink moisturizer that you can still buy. It is amazing.

CeraVe. The regular kind in the pot. They have AM and PM too but I haven't tried those. Also what really works good is the CeraVe moisturizing cleanser. I use both. I used to have extremely dry skin around the chin area, so much that the skin would flake off in that area and the cleanser and cream have really changed that for me. Both are about $ 15.00 at CVS and I think Walmart has them too.

Weleda Skin Food and Weleda Everon are super moisturizing. First Aid Beauty Repair cream is also a wonder and not as thick but just as hydrating.
