Daily Positive Thread for Friday

Hello my friends! Hope your Thursday is still going well. Haven't made ribs for a long time, so did for supper on top of the stove, first browning them, then adding water, potatoes and carrots, and cover and let it cook. When Linus came home it was very tender and delicious! Usually he'd grill them, but he said he'll be tired and would rather I did them. The boys (dogs) love the bones. I have Ollie for the day and part of the night. Lori was here for lunch, that is always something I look forward to. She's s Massage Therapist for those who don't know, and she has access to beauty salon products so she went there on her lunch break and I needed some hair spray so she got me one - good quality. Many blessings throughout the day, even a New Year's card from a friend! How special! How has God blessed you today?

Through the power of God within me, I am stronger than any of my
circumstances.
Lord, I seek, I knock and I ask and You are always there and ready to give
me
the miracles that I need.

Scripture for the day:

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
~Psalm 119:105

Meditation for the day:

I know that the vision and power which I can receive from God are
limitless as far as spiritual things are concerned. But in temporal
and material things, I must submit to limitations. I know that I cannot
see the road ahead. I can go just one step at a time, because I do not
have a longer view. I am sometimes in uncharted waters, limited by
my temporal and spatial life, but unlimited in my spiritual life.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that, in spite of my material limitations, I may follow God's
way. I pray that I may learn that trying to do God's will is perfect
freedom.

10 Commandments of the Tongue

1) Thou shalt not gossip. Prov. 18:8 Before any evil story whispered
in the ear is passed on, it should be treated as the housewife treats
apples for a pie ... first peeled, then quartered, and cored, then
what remains liberally sugared.

(2) Thou shalt not use a multitude of empty words. Prov. 10:19. Your
tongue reveals the nature of your thinking and your character. The
divine Master Himself admonishes the children of men to "let your
admonishes be yea, yea, nay, nay, for whatsoever is more than these
cometh of evil."

(3) Thou shalt not boast. Prov. 27:2 A small man makes long, loud
boasting in order to center the spotlight of attention on himself; the
great man works quietly, Silently polishing the beacon that it may
guide the ship safely into the desired haven.

(4) Thou shalt not flatter. Prov. 26:28 Someone has said that
"Flattery is like soft soap; it is 90% lye" - and you can count on the
ratio being just about right. The words of the man or woman who would
flatter you, according to the psalmist, who had a great deal of
experience with that sort of thing, are "softer than oil, yet
withdrawn swords."

(5) Thou shalt not grumble. Phil. 2:14 The prescription for this
malady is to saturate your life with loving kindness. Let it enter
every pore and the process will be absolutely foolproof against the
gnawing frets and worries that are worse than termites, to eat the
soul out of you.

(6) Thou shalt not backbite or slander. Psalm 64:3 The tongue that
backbites or slanders is the weapon that empties churches, pours
streams of bickering humans into divorce courts, fills our jails with
wretched humanity, and lashes men and woman to Satan's kingdom.

(7) Thou shalt not mock or make fun. Job 11:3 Let us learn sympathy
and give our fellows a helping hand instead of mockery, no matter how
peculiar or odd they may be. Remember angels visit the earth in all
kinds of guises.

(8) Thou shalt not lie. Ex. 20:16 The first recorded lie was told in
the garden of Eden. Since then, the practice has spread like a plague
throughout the whole earth. Everyone hates a lying tongue.

(9) Thou shalt not swear. Ex. 20:7 Profanity is the official language
of the devil's kingdom. Have no part in it for it will disqualify you
for heaven.

(10) Thou shalt not argue in anger. Hosea 7:16 Whatever the
provocation is remember that "silence is golden" and that "a soft
answer turneth away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger" Prov.
15:11

Directions Home

I really like this one. Someone spent a lot of time on this....

DIRECTIONS TO OUR FATHER'S HOUSE.

Make a Right onto Believeth Blvd.

Keep straight and go through the Green Light, which is Jesus Christ.

There, you must turn onto the Bridge of Faith, which is over troubled water.

When you get off the bridge, make a Right turn and Keep Straight.

You are on the King's Highway - Heaven-bound.

Keep going for three miles:

One for the Father, One for the Son, and One for the Holy Spirit

Then exit off onto Grace Blvd.

From there, make a Right turn on Gospel Lane.

Keep Straight and then make another Right on Prayer Road.

As you go on your way,

Yield Not to the traffic on Temptation Ave.

Also, avoid SIN STREET because it is a DEAD END.

Pass up Envy Drive, and Hate Avenue.

Also, pass Hypocrisy Street, Gossiping Lane, and Backbiting Blvd.
However, you have to go down Long-suffering Lane, Persecution Blvd. and
Trials and Tribulations Ave.

But that's all right, because VICTORY Street is straight ahead!

SEND THESE DIRECTIONS TO YOUR FRIENDS SO THEY WILL NOT GET LOST.

A Morning Prayer...
I prayed to God this morning
That He might send me hope,
And then He sent His mighty Word
To give me strength to cope...

I prayed to God this morning
That He might send me joy,
And all around I heard the mirth
Of every girl and boy...

I prayed to God this morning
That He might send me love,
And suddenly I felt the warmth
of sunshine from above....

I prayed to God this morning
That He might send me peace,
And in the clamor of the day,
I felt a great release!

Hope C. Oberhelman

INSPIRATIONAL SAYINGS OF MOTHER TERESA

"Love begins at home."

"Before you speak, it is necessary for you to listen,
for God speaks in the silence of the heart."

"How can we love God whom
We do not see, if we do not love
Our neighbours whom we see,
Whom we touch, with whom we live?"
"Intense love does not measure, it just gives."

"If we really want to love, we must learn how to forgive."

"If we pray, we will believe;
if we believe, we will love,
if we love, we will serve."

"The child is God's gift to the family."
"We can do no great things; only small things with great love."

"If you are humble, nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace,
because you know what you are."

"Do not allow yourself to be disheartened by any failure as long as
you have done your best."
"It is not how much we do, but how much love we put into what we do."

"Works of love are always works of peace."

"Give until it hurts - with a smile."

"If we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell
people not to kill one another?"

"The world today is hungry not only for bread but hungry for love;
hungry to be wanted, to be loved."
"The poor are very great people, they can teach us many beautiful things"

"I am so used to seeing the smile on our people, even the dying ones smile."

"Instead of death and sorrow, let us bring peace and joy to the world."

Like an Only Child

A woman who was dying of AIDS summoned a Christian friend to comfort her,
but it seemed hopeless.

“I'm lost,” she said. “I've ruined my life and every life around me. I'm
headed for H ell. There's no hope for me.”

Her friend saw a framed picture of a pretty girl on the dresser. “Who is
that?” he asked.

The woman brightened. “She's my daughter, the one beautiful thing in my
life.”

“Would you help her if she was in trouble, no matter how many mistakes she'd
made? Would you forgive her if she asked you to? Would you still love her,
no matter what?”

“Of course I would!” the woman exclaimed. “Why would you even ask a question
like that?”

“Because I want you to understand,” explained her friend, “that God has a
picture of you on His dresser, too.”

GOD ANSWERS PRAYER

I know not by what methods rare,
But this I know - God answers prayer,
I know not when He sends the word
That tells us fervent prayer is heard.
I know it cometh -- soon or late:
Therefore we need to pray and wait.
I know not if the blessing sought
Will come in just the way I thought.
I leave my prayers with Him alone,
Whose will is wiser than my own.

Lord let me capture the pure spirit of a loving child when I speak Your
name.
Let me pray as a child prays, asking little for myself,
much for other souls and for Your beautiful world.
Protect me, sleeping and waking, from evil.
Lead me by the hand to good works.
Let me praise You in simple words and in glorious silence through all
the days and the nights of my life.
Amen.

Do Not...

Do not... undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is
because we are different that each of us is special.

Do not... set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know
what is best for you.

Do not... take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them
as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.

Do not... let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past nor
for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days
of your life.

Do not... give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really
over until the moment you stop trying. It is a fragile thread that binds us
to each other.

Do not... be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we
learn how to be brave.

Do not... shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find. The
quickest way to receive love is to give love; The fastest way to lose love
is to hold it too tightly.

Do not... dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope;
To be without hope is to be without purpose.

Do not... run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have
been, but also where you are going.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Friday

Hi Everyone! We only had an inch of snow here, which was good with me. I was out yesterday for a few hours, as I never made it out on Wednesday. I stayed close to home and just shopped in my usual stores. Every place was so quiet even though the main roads were only wet. I got everything done that I needed to, and was so happy that I didn't have to make the drive to a bigger area for what we needed. DH was a nervous wreck about my going out, so I was especially happy to surprise him by getting back early.

Today will be a relaxing day. My back did not like all the activity yesterday, though it wasn't much more than my usual trip to town, so stretching will be top priority. I have a few calls to make,so it will be a good day to sit and chat awhile. I feel a lot better than I did last night though, and am very grateful for that.

Gloria: I remember the "Directions to Our Father's House", and enjoy it every time. I received a small, one decade rosary in the mail yesterday, I think from St.Anthony's, ?, it's so neat, and will be great to take to use in the car, or even before mass.

Have a good day, and a nice weekend! Hugs, pinky

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Friday

We didn't have much in the way of snow Thursday. Our local weather people are saying the worst is to come on Saturday. We are supposed to get a Noreaster. We'll see.

Those ribs sure sound good Gloria.

Blessings to all.

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Friday

Good morning!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well and receiving many blessings. Like an only child touched my heart. God has a picture of you on his dresser, well, that just brought tears to my eyes.

I want to thank y'all for your prayers for my little Aidan and my cousin, Lynn. Aidan is doing just fine. He got his cast on and went back to school yesterday. He goes back to the Dr in a couple of weeks to get the pins out of his arm and will get another cast. It will take a while to get his arm totally healed but it is looking good. My cousin is still on a respirator but is responding to her husband when he comes in. The nurses say she is looking better but it will be some time before the extent of damage is known. Please continue prayers for Lynn. Thanks!

Not much more to say except that I hope the weather isn't so bad for you that have a forecast of snow. That is a bad word down here! lol

Have a good (rest of the day), take care, stay safe and may the Lord bless you with all good things.

Thank you, Harlene. I totally forgot to mention that my daughter did very well with her dental procedure. Absolutely no pain at all and I am so thankful for that and I thank you all for your prayers.

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Friday

Pinky Ann - I've always liked that Directions to Our Father's House too, and that design is so cute! I sent that one two years ago. Praise God you didn't have to be gone long and got everything you needed closer by. Good that you're relaxing today - I am too, sometimes I just need to. But I will start vacuuming soon before Linus gets home from work, and straighten up - had a nice nap, I needed it! Just couldn't function right before. That is a nice gift in the mail. Once I got a bracelet from Darla that has one decade. I treasure that! Did I ever tell you that it's so neat having you back here with us? Thank you!

Harlene, yes, those ribs were awesome and so easy to cook! We're supposed to have some snow maybe Sunday - if so, then we probably won't go to my sister, Deil's. Sure hate even riding in a car on icy roads.

Lucy - that piece that touched your heart is an old one, but a good one. I'm glad you mentioned it. Wonderful news about your dear grandson!!! Continued prayers for Lynn. I'm so glad your daughter went through the dental procedure with no pain at all. That's remarkable. Usually after the Novocaine wears off, I'd feel it, but it's those darn dry sockets that hurt so much! Prayers work wonders!!
