Daily Positive Thread for Thanksgiving Day

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! Wishing you all the very best - I am so thankful for my Faith, my Church, my family, my sisters, and all of you, my dear, dear friends! You all mean the world to me! We pray for each other, we support each other and we love and care for each other. Isn't that great? All different Faiths coming together in love! Praise the Lord for all He does for us!! It's so wonderful to see some of our past posters here again! They truly were missed. Anyone remember Robin? (forget her nic). Twinnie? Haven't heard from her since her twin sister died. Trying to reach her too. Wish I had Hopefully's email address. Maybe I did, but it got rejected and so I deleted. May you all have a great day giving Thanks to the Lord!

Jesus came to us to serve not be served. Lord, help me to set aside
my self-serving behaviors and model my life after You.

Scripture for the day:

You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head
will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives."
~Luke 21:12-19

Meditation for the day:

It's not easy to be a true Christian. The price is laid out on today's
Gospel. "You will be hated by all because of my name." We may think this
does not apply to us. Then we need to ask ourselves if our faith realy
and truly sets us apart from others around us. And we can be comfroted to
hear, "... but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your
perseverance you will secure your lives.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may be a true Christian. I pray that I may trust in the
security the Lord gives me as He helps me see the importance of working
for those things which last forever.

I am thankful I can walk;
there are those who have never taken their first step.
I am thankful I can see the beauty all around me;
there are those whose world is always dark.
I am thankful I can hear music playing;
there are those who entire life has been spent in silence.

I am thankful my heart can be broken;
there are those who are so hardened they cannot be touched.

I am thankful I can move about freely and express my beliefs;
there are those who live in constant fear.

I am thankful I have been loved;
there are those for whom no one has ever cared.

I am thankful I can work;
there are those who have to depend on others for even their most basic
needs.

I am thankful to wake up in the morning and take a deep breath of fresh air;
there are those who never got that far.

I am thankful for the opportunity to help others;
there are those who have not been so abundantly blessed as I.

Today I Give Thanks

The one sturdy rose bloom left alone
In a garden where scarlet leaves have blown.
The crisp freshness of the morning air;
The bright gold of mums so fair.
The warm fireside that glows
As outside the North wind blows.
The aroma of turkey, yams, and cakes;
The spicy pumpkin pie that bakes.
The love of family, friends so dear,
The laughter of my children near.
The church's steeple rising high,
The songs we sing, the prayers we sigh.
For all the little things in life,
The Love that overcomes all strife,
These are the things for which I say,
"I thank You," to my Lord today.

BLESSING FOR A MEAL

Dear God:
-
Thank you for preparing this table before us.
-
Thank you for the bounty of the earth, which nourishes our bodies.
-
Thank you for the abundance of your goodness, which sustains our lives,
strengthening us to serve you more
effectively.
-
Thank you for the hands that prepared this meal and for the joy of being
able to share it.
-
For all we have received and all that is yet to come, God, we are thankful!
We are grateful! We are fulfilled! In Jesus Name! Amen!

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

Divine Infant Jesus, I know you love me and would never leave me. I thank
you for your close presence in my life.
Miraculous Infant, I believe in your promise of peace, blessings, and
freedom from want. I place every need and care in your hands. Lord Jesus,
may I always trust in your generous mercy and love. I want to honor and
praise you now and forever. Amen.

Daily Thanksgiving

I thank Thee, Lord, for daily things --
The song a little wild bird sings,
Misty asters on the hills,
Geraniums on windowsills,

For dewdrop jewels angels spill
When dawn is cool and still,
For laughing child and romping pup,
For cold, sweet water in my cup,

First snowdrop, and fall wind's caress,
A friend's warm hand in time of stress,
For work to do, for rain and sun,
And quiet rest when day is done,

For blue woodsmoke and firelit pane,
For surety spring will come again.
For each day's sweets and eyes that see,
Father, I thank You, joyously!

HIDDEN BLESSINGS

There was a king in Africa who had a close friend that he grew up with.
The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in
his life (positive or negative) and remarking, "This is good!"

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The
friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had
apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after
taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown
off.

Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, "This is good!"

To which the king replied, "No this is NOT good!" and proceeded to send
his friend to jail.

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have
known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured him and took him to their
village. They tied him to a stake surrounded by wood.

As they came near to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king
had but one thumb. Being superstitious, they never ate anyone that was less
than whole. They untied the king and sent him away.

As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken his
thumb and felt so very badly about his treatment of his friend. He went
immediately to the jail to speak with his friend. "You were right" he said,
"it was good that my thumb was blown off." And he proceeded to tell the
friend all that had just happened. "And so I am very sorry for sending you
to jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this."

"No," his friend replied, "this is good!"

"What do you mean, 'this is good'! How could it be good that I sent you,
my good friend, to jail for all this time?"

"If I had not been in jail, I would have been with you - and eaten!"

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING, BUT I JUST COULDN'T
SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS, I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED - THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION, THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME
INFATUATION.

SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.

I GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES, PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND
TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.

I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.

BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY, MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP,
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE
PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS.

MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING BE BLESSED!!
WE HAVE SO MUCH TO BE GRATEFUL FOR!!

Prayer for Loving Others

Lord,
Make me an instrument of your love. May I see each circumstance in my life
as an opportunity to grow in your love. May I see my environment as a place
to grow in your love.

May I then take this love to other people.....

*When I am tempted to become impatient, help me to be patient.
*When I am tempted to become unkind, help me to be kind.
*When I am tempted to become jealous, help me to be tolerant.
*When I am tempted to become boastful or proud, help me give you the glory.
*When I am tempted to be rude or selfish, give me the gift of gentleness.
*When I am tempted to take offense, help me to let go .
*When I am tempted to become angry with someone, give me the gift of
forgiveness .
*When I am tempted to become resentful , give me your power to love.

Lord, grant that I may take no pleasure in criticizing others, but that I
may see good in them, as you do.
**When I begin to concentrate on the faults and failures of others, give me
courage to praise their accomplishments.
**Help me be loyal to those you give me to love.
**Help me to believe in them, even when they do not believe in themselves.
To expect the best from them, but accept the best they can give. May I
always defend them, as you always defend me.

All gifts and powers come from you. All will come to an end. With one
important exception, the gift of love!!! Lord, when I was a child, I thought
like a child, I acted like a child, and I reasoned like a child. Now that I
have become an adult, I release my childish ways.
Amen
Teaching of

Padre Pio

Pray, hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear
your prayer.

Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God's heart. You must
speak to Jesus not only with your lips, but with your heart. In fact on
certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart.

The life of a Christian is nothing but a perpetual struggle against self;
there is no flowering of the soul to the beauty of its perfection except at
the price of pain.

Keep close to the Catholic Church at all times, for the Church alone can
give you true peace, since she alone possesses Jesus, the true Prince of
Peace, in the Blessed Sacrament.

Fear not because God is with you.

Prayer is the oxygen of the soul.

Who can assure us that we will be alive tomorrow? Let us listen to the voice
of our conscience, to the voice of the royal prophet: "Today, if you hear
God's voice, harden not your heart." Let us not put off from one moment to
another what we should do because the next moment is not yet ours.

Oh, how precious time is! Blessed are those who know how to make good use of
it. Oh, if only all could understand how precious time is, undoubtedly
everyone would do his best to spend it in a praiseworthy manner!

Mother Teresa Said...

We are all called to be saints.
We all have been created in the image of God to love and to be loved.

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thanksgiving Day

God Bless all who post here and may you have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I am so blessed and have much to be thankful for.

I thank God for each day I wake up and am so blessed when my birds wake up with me. I don't take their lives for granted and cherish them daily.

I thank God that I have a job to go to that allows me to have a home to live in, the ability to have clean water, electricity and heat. I am able to sleep in a warm environment and bathe when I want. So many have nowhere to go and no fresh water.

I thank God that I have clothes and shoes for my feet and a little car that gets me from point A to point B.

Right now, I'm struggling with frozen shoulder in my right side. Even though it aches, I thank God I have the arm and shoulder at all. There are people who have lost limbs.

I thank God for my siblings, nieces, their husbands and my great nieces - we are a small family and I am grateful to have them.

I thank God for the abundant bird and squirrel population that visits and eats in my yard. I welcome the bunnies and skunks and am grateful they take sanctuary in my yard.

I thank God that my sister found a job with an employer who values her. It was a rocky year, but I had faith that God was waiting for the right fit for her.

I thank God for all of this on a daily basis.

I also thank God for the lovely people I have met through the many forums on this site.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Re: Daily Positive Thread for Thanksgiving Day

Happy Thanksgiving to all who come here - safe travels to all who are going to be out and about. We all have so much to be thankful for and I enjoyed reading all the posts and thinking yes I can also be thankful for that.

So sorry to hear about Carmela and I do recall her health concerns from as far back as I posted. May God's will be done.

Pinky - Good to see you and thank you Gloria for sending emails to those who posted before and haven't for some time.

Does anyone remember the woman who lived I believe in the Midwest - cold? Her husband was retired military and enjoyed motorcycles or so I recall and they moved to Arizona. She made bead jewelry and sent me some lovely bracelets. It seems I often remember bits and pieces but not the full story.

I would also enjoy hearing from Hopefully and several others but I don't recall their names.

Thank you Gloria for posting daily. I realize now how much I have missed being here and hearing about others.

Be safe, be well and God bless. This is what a dear friend of mine from California always ends our conversations with. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
