Daily Positive Thread for Friday

Hello my friends! Hope your day went well. We got rain, but it was a nice rain and cooler. Went to Dr. Mike this morning for check up on the head aches, which seem to be gone now, but I need to go back again on Tuesday. Would you believe that Dr. Mike noticed my hair cut? Very observant he is! My blessings today was a good check up, then Lori was over for supper tonight, we had sausage and our beans and cucumber salad from our cucumbers. More planning on how everything should be on Sunday. It's a busy week. Praying for you all! Expect miracles.

Make peace with your imperfections and concentrate on your strengths.

Lord, teach me to become more aware of my goodness so that little by

little I will become even better.

Scripture for the day:

"I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the

sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, if

somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have

already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on

to make it my own,

because Christ Jesus has made me his own." ~Philippians 3:10-12

Meditation for the day:

We need not dwell too much on the mistakes, faults and failures of the

past. We can be done with shame and remorse and contempt for

ourselves. With God's help, we can develop a new self-respect. Unless

we respect ourselves, others will not respect us. We ran a race, we

stumbled and fell, we have risen again and now we press on toward the

goal of a better life. We need not stay to examine the spot where we

fell, only feel sorry for the delay, the shortsightedness that

prevented us from

seeing the real goal sooner.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may not look back. I pray that I may keep picking

myself up and making a fresh start each day.

Prayer for Students

Father Joseph, you taught Jesus how to work and play,

help us to realize that we can only gain knowledge by listening and

learning.

With you to help and guide us we pray,

O Saint Joseph, that we will choose the right path

and will remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus.

Amen.

The Bird that Talked

There is an old story about a fellow who lived alone and went to a pet store

to buy a parrot. He thought the bird might fill some of his lonely hours.

The very next day, however, he came back to complain, "That bird doesn't

talk."

The store owner asked if he had a mirror in its cage, and the man said he

didn't. "Oh, parrots love mirrors," he explained. "When he sees his

reflection in the mirror, he'll just start talking away." So he sold him a

birdcage mirror.

The bird owner was back the next day to gripe that his parrot still hadn't

said a word. "That's very peculiar," allowed the pet expert. "How about a

swing? Birds really love these little swings, and a happy parrot is a

talkative parrot." So the man bought a swing, took it home, and installed it

in the cage.

But he was back the next day with the same story. "Does he have a ladder to

climb?" the salesman asked. "That just has to be the problem. Once he has a

ladder, he'll probably talk your ear off!" So the fellow bought a ladder.

The man was back at the pet store when it opened the next day. From the look

on his face, the owner knew something was wrong. "Didn't your parrot like

the ladder?" he asked. His repeat customer looked up and said, "The parrot

died."

"I'm so sorry," the stunned businessman said. "Did he ever say anything?"

"Well, yes. He finally talked just before he died. In a weak little voice,

he asked me, "Don't they sell any bird seed at that pet store?'"

Some of us have mistakenly thought that happiness consists of lining our

cages with toys, gadgets, and other stuff. Excessive consumption has become

the hallmark of our life. "Whoever has the most toys wins" seems to be the

likely candidate to be the bumper sticker for an entire culture. But is it

so?

There is a spiritual hunger in the human heart that can't be satisfied by

seeing one's own image reflected back in vanity mirrors, playing with our

grown-up toys, or climbing the corporate ladder. Our hearts need real

nourishment. The love of family and friends, relationships over the pursuit

of more things, personal integrity, a secure connection to God --these are

the things that feed the soul.

Have you chosen a life course that leads to a destination that matters?

RECIPE FOR KINDNESS

Author Unknown

Fold two hands together

And express a dash of sorrow

Marinate it overnight

And work on it tomorrow.

Chop one grudge in tiny pieces

Add several cups of love

Dredge with a large sized smile

Mix with the ingredients above.

Dissolve the hate within you,

By doing a good deed

Cut in and help your friend

If he should be in need.

Stir in laughter, love an kindness

>From the heart it has to come,

Toss with genuine forgiveness

And give your neighbor some.

The amount of people served

Will depend on you,

It can serve the whole wide world,

If you really want it to.

PRAYER FOR THE PRESENT MOMENT

Dear God. I spend so much time reliving yesterday or

anticipating tomorrow that I lose sight of the only time

that is really mine - the present moment. You give me

today one moment at a time. That's all I have - all I ever

will have.

Give the faith which knows that each moment contains

exactly what is best for me. Give the hope which trusts

You enough to forget past failings and future trials.

Give the love which makes each moment an anticipation of

eternity with You. We ask this in the name of Jesus who is

the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen.

Help Me To Let Go, and Let God

Dear Lord, Help me to let go and let You. Urge me to let go of my impatience

and to open my heart to Your Loving Patience. Teach me how to let go of my

pompous attitude in thinking I'm the only one capable of solving all of my

problems. Counsel me on how to let go of my cares, my worries and the noises

in my life... and to let You surround me with Your Tranquil Assurances of my

comfort.

Encourage me to let go of my selfishness and let You show me the benefit of

praying for others who seek Your Protection, Your Healings, Your

Forgiveness, Your Compassion and Your Rainbows after raging storms. Remind

me, Lord, of the Holy Benefits when I let go and let You lead me on Your

Path. Smile with me, Lord, when I finally let go and let You take over. Nod

Your Head in Sanctified Approval when I let go of my follies and let You

replace them with positive goals in my life. Amen.

Glory, Honor and Praise to You, Lord, forever and ever.

Today's readings 8/28/14 - Patrick's Scripture Reflection for today:

1Cor.1:1-9; Ps.145:2-7; Mt.24:42-51

After listening to St.Paul's greeting to the church in Corinth, a busy and

diverse city much like the society we live in today, it's obvious that his

words are addressed to us as well. When we think about the calling he

refers to it's clear that the advice Jesus gives us to "stay awake" and not

allow our spiritual "houses" to be "broken into" is right on time,

especially when we think about all the different ways the world tries to

"break in and rob" us. The problem is it only takes a second for the enemy

to gain access and cause a lot of unnecessary "wailing and grinding of

teeth", a sad reality that none of us are immune to or exempt from. That's

because temptation and failure are an inescapable part of our humanity,

fortunately for us that "Grace of God bestowed on us in Christ Jesus" our

saint talks about enables us to place our trust in God's Infinite Mercy and

counter those attacks every time. St.Paul reminds us that "God is faithful"

even when we break faith with Him, and when we reaffirm our faith in that

Truth He is able to "keep you firm until the end, irreproachable on the Day

of Our Lord". With that being said we don't have to know when that Day will

come, all we have to know is Who is coming and be busy with the work He has

called us to when He gets here.

God bless you,

In Jesus - Pat
