It seems like overnight that my house has been overtaken by ladybugs. Does anybody know how I can get of them? TIA

Hi,

I'm in western Pennsylvania and we're having an invasion today of stink bugs, and what appears to be the ladybug lookalike, the Asian lady beetles. The weather here for the past two days has been warmer then usual and I feel it has something to do with it. I probably have a couple thousand (I kid you not.) of these guys on the house exterior.

If your ladybugs lookalikes are getting into your house, the quickest and easiest thing to do is vacuum them up and dispose of them. If you search the internet for Asian Lady Beetles you will find a lot of information.

From what I read, they are looking for places to hibernate for the winter. I have not read anything that says they are harmful, just annoying. However, the thought of possibly having a bug crawling on you when you're sleeping is not pleasant.

Just wanted to reply to let you know you are not the only one with this problem.

It's the season for those harmless Asian beetles. They were flying all over the backyard yesterday when I had clothes on the line. If they get inside the house, we leave them alone and just vacuum up the dead ones. We mainly have them inside the garage; not many get into the house.

I live in western Pennsylvania too and besides the stink bug problem we have had a bug that looks like a lighting bug but it has red wings...I don't know what they are but they are all over the front of my house and the garage door.

Those are box elder bugs . Many times they appear at the same time -as the Asian beetles .

Both are annoying, but at least they don't have the horrid odor of the Asian beetle.{#emotions_dlg.sad}

You'll find my heart at the Rainbow Bridge. :(

These aren't the pretty red lady bugs. These are an ugly orange and smell horrible!

Lady bugs are good for roses but if box elder bugs the news showed them invading a Utah city and said they leave when winter comes.

Hi Jessa,

I haven't seen the boxelder at my home yet, but I am sure they will find me. I know what you mean by opening the door. Those stink bugs and beetles seem to gather there waiting for an invitation to come in. I googled boxelder and the first reference which came up was from the University of Minnesota. It is a good article.

I'm waiting until our weather cools down permanently before I go up in the attic with my vacuum. I know that is where the stink bugs are hanging out for the winter. They are getting in thru the ridge vents and where our attic fan is mounted.

Haven't had the problem with the Asian beetles like we did last year (Ohio). They were all over the southern side of the house then- yeeeesh! All we could do was to vacuum them up- I used my old vacuum with the disposable bags. They do smell when crushed! I don't know of any traps for them.

Our problem this year are the 'shield bugs'. They can be almost 1" long and let loose a stink when disturbed. Even our cats leave them alone. So I catch them in a jar and toss them outside. Hopefully the winter will get very cold long enough to slow the bug explosion for next year!

Thanks Pam...I am going to google them also.
