They say that they are "synthetic"... which is a man-made product, which seems to me to be a vinyl or rubber.... yup.

Not my cup of tea, and sure wouldn't have the same great affect as their cork soles.

I wore Birkis for tons of years from the 70's (I no longer can wear an open back after I flipped a shoe off and fell down a flight of stairs), and did not like some of their changes. This was one of them...

Thanks for posting this. If you enlarge the picture it looks like the soles are the normal cork, just dyed. Birkenstock has always had synthetics, like Birkiflor, for those that don't want to wear leather.

I have a pair of the solid vinyl Birks for gardening or the beach,actually my most comfortable shoes.

I used to have a vinyl pair I got at the q many years ago. No idea where they went, must have made it into the goodwill bag. They had a lime green sole with a yellow and lime green pin stripped upper. I think they also came in red and blue.
