Can I Store My Leather Handbags in a Cedar Chest?

All of my handbags are in their dust bags or pillowcases, is it ok to store in a cedar chest?

If it has a strong cedar smell, it could penetrate into the leather...and you could walk around smelling like cedar. I don't think moths eat leather...or do they?

I'm keeping them in a large trunk but it's getting full ${#emotions_dlg.scared}$ Time to stop buying handbags.

I don't see why not... A bit of the scent might get into porous fabric linings, but it's probably not a deal-breaker.

I would have never thought about doing that but my mom was in a house fire years ago and the only things that were salvageable were what she had in the cedar chest.

I have wondered the same thing, too. Would they get enough air to keep them from drying out?

After seeing this thread it occurred to me to check my cedar chest... I can say I've stored several suede bags in a ceder chest now for several years and they appear to be no different. They also didn't seem to absorb a ceder scent.
