Anuschka & Protectant

I bought my first Anuschka purse. Can you ladies recommend a good leather protectant that's good for the painted leather? I was going to buy the one at ShopHQ, but forgot so I was hoping I could pick one up at a local department store.

I heard the Anuschka salesman say not to use anything on the bags except their own brand of protectant. But I also read on a blog that their protectant wasn't 'all that' - apparently it smells strongly of petroleum or similar product, plus it darkened the colors of the paint. I didn't see where anyone was happy with it, so I didn't order any. I'm just going to take my chances when keeping my purses clean.
