I started taking Cymbalta 30mg once in the AM and the same in the PM. I started it about six weeks ago. I take it for nerve pain, not for depression and so far, no side effects at all. I have taken the same daily dosage since 2008 - but for fibromyalgia pain - and there's been little to no side effects. It's one of the "easier" meds. to handle.

You can find out on the website WebMD.com Last edited on 5/27/2011 I tried to take it for a while, but never got up to more than 30mg once per day. I actually had to dump out half the capsule and then two thirds of the capsule, because the side effects for me were quite noticeable at any dose, no matter how small. My main side effect was turning into a lump on my couch. I think my problems with the med resemble a problem with clearance out of my body in a timely manner. It almost seemed like the drug kept building up in my system. Perhaps you will have better luck. I was thinking of asking my doc to write a script to a compounding pharmacy for Cymbalta so they will make me 5mg capsules to use when my nerve pain in my back gets too bad to handle. winamac11306486693.26723741 PostsRegistered 12/29/2010Indiana I haven't taken any of these drugs, but I sell in the antidepressant market. Cymbalta is a good product and it's not one I promote. It works well on depression and fibromyalgia. There aren't a ton of side effects with it--start low--go slow. "Friends don't let friends...drink white zinfandel" Thanks for all the replies. My husband has peripheral neuropathy and his Neurologist just prescribed it for him. His first appt. was on Tuesday. He had a thorough exam. Then, he ordered an MRI, a battery of blood work including 2 hr. glucose tolerance test. He called the Cymbalta in on Tuesday but told him not to start until all these tests were finished. I think he's starting on 30 mg. QD, then gradually to 60 and then 90 but we don't have it here yet and he's not home so I'm not sure of the exact dosage..... His next appt. is for early July, unless something happens before then.... By then, he will have taken the drug for over a month. He has done a ton of research on this drug and is well aware of side effects. Our son is a doctor and is married to a hospital Pharmacologist. I just wanted to get some feedback from people who actually take it and what side effects, if any, they experienced.... Thanks again for all the replies... "If Travis was here, he would tell you I didn't kill him" - jodi arias to Det. Flores Hi, I take it for fibro and love it. Everyone is different. I started out at 30 and I just went up to 90 a few months ago. Was on 30 for about three months, then my regular dose was 60. Was at that level for about six years. I think I had to go up due to weight gain and the 60 wasn't enough. I take it at night; I think it makes me a little sleepy. No side effects except if I missed a dose; then you feel lousy. It's one of the drugs that after taking for so long, you have to taper off if you decide to quit. My doctor does bloodwork every three to six months (was six months until we increased the dosage)to check my liver functions. It can affect it, but after being on it all this time, liver has been normal. For me, the morning after I took Cymbalta, I felt someone had turned off the pain switch. I felt like doing things. Still get fatigued, but pain management is not much an issue now. I hope your husband has a positive outcome. Please keep up posted. Hi SophiaMarie, I have taken it over a year. The only side effect I experienced was constipation. Other than that, I have tolerated it with no issues. I hope this helps. Sassenach Hi again everyone: He just came home with the meds. He has to take 20 mg. with breakfast for one week. He just took the first one. Then, 30 mg. every day for a month. So, he got 7 pills of the 20 mg. and a month supply of the 30 mg. The doctor said to see how they work and gradually he will bring him up to 90 mg. My husband is the most positive, least depressed person I have ever met. He has never had a side effect to any medication that he has ever taken. I'm just curious myself and wouldn't tell him about any adverse effects I read here anyway but I will observe him . He does have PTSD/Anxiety/Panic Disorder but he manages that very well. He has learned how to control an oncoming attack with mental exercises and Xanax. So, maybe the Cymbalta will help with those things too.... Again, thanks for the replies and keep them coming. They all sound so positive and I'm glad it's helping so many of you.... "If Travis was here, he would tell you I didn't kill him" - jodi arias to Det. Flores shoprgurl1306509635.1957 PostsRegistered 1/31/2006 I take this medication for depression, brought on by the beginning of menopause. I have only been on it for a month as I have switched medications. I began at 60 mg a day and now am at 90 mg a day. I have noticed I sweat more which my doctor says is a common side effect. I usually notice this at night, but not a true female hot flash. It can also cause dizziness, which I noticed a few times, but my doctor says that usually subsides once you are used to the medication, but it is something to watch for. I know it is prescribed for various reasons and I hope your husband sees improvement with it! I am thrilled with the improvement I have had with it. violann1306520073.439199 PostsRegistered 12/12/2004 I think the worst part of taking this type of med is that you can "lose interest". I found that more depressing than what I was depressed about. "Interest" does return when you stop taking the medication though. He could stand to lose about 10 lbs. That's another thing. He exercises every day but I noticed he hasn't for about a week so I really don't think he's feeling very good. He doesn't complain much so it's hard to tell... He does walk every evening. I hope your osteo gets better with this medication..... I don't mean any ill but when I read this, it sent up red flags for me. I suspect the Xanax is doing more than the mental exercises. I had an aunt who took Xanax. It's highly addictive and she admitted she couldn't function without it. She ended up in assisted living and the doctor felt the Xanax brought on chemically induced dementia. It was irreversible and she slowly slipped away from us. Please, be careful with this drug and find out all you can about it. Thom

My doctor had not warned me of the side effects of just stopping. I thought I would die! Severe headaches, little shocks in my head, spacy-ness. Google side effects of Cymbalta and you can read a lot of horror stories. Yeah, the withdrawl when you come off of it is unbelievably bad!!! I was miserable for about a month and I had only been on 30 mgs (but for 1-2 years). Anyone taking it should google the side effects when coming off it. I'd still take it again though if needed b/c it worked so well for me on such a small dose. violann1306585782.9139199 PostsRegistered 12/12/2004 I had NO withdrawal issues at all, but I was only taking 30 mgs before I stopped taking it. Thalmy: I'm afraid I may have misled you when I stated that my husband "...learned how to control an oncoming attack with mental exercises and Xanax." I didn't mean that he used them together. When he feels an attack coming on, he uses the mental exercises in place of the Xanax and has been very successful with it. Not in all cases, though, and he still takes Xanax when needed, and then he will break a .5 mg. in HALF, so he's really only taking 2.5 mg. It's really hard, if not impossible to explain a "true" panic attack to people who have never had one. I have heard people say "just talk yourself out of it", etc... Not so easy... With each one, you think that this is "THE ONE that is going to take you down", even though you tell yourself that you always came through all the others.. He has a Ph.D and teaches patients how to get through them with mental exercise.... After re-reading my post, I can see where it might be mis-interpreted, because I barely understood it myself. I am not a pill popper and I don't really believe in taking pills to treat problems in the body that doctors don't understand what causes in the first place. I stopped taking them. They wanted to put me on something else, but I just thought I could live with the symptoms on my own.
