Wearing ultra (I mean ULTRA) short "Daisy Dukes"

Started 1277217822.087 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1277269467.867 by babcias5

While, I must admit that I wore them in my early years, I was particular as to WHERE I would wear them.

I know we're in the summer season and it's hot out...but, am I the only one who thinks they shouldn't be worn EVERYWHERE?!?? I'm talking bout short, short Daisy Dukes! {#emotions_dlg.blushing}

I also think you gotta have the figure and the right top to pull it off; otherwise you just end up looking like trash which is why I started this thread. Because I've seen too many females looking trashy. {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

And by the way...Daisy Dukes = shorts like the ones worn by Daisy Duke from Dukes of Hazzard.

I don't refer to other women as looking trashy.

As far as daisy dukes are concerned, I think as we become older some of us become more and more judgmental of young women.

Bet when we were younger the thought of looking "trashy" wasn't something we spent a lot of time worrying about.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

R U kidding me? I was just at a graduation open house that had a whole yard full of teenagers wearing these "shorts". All I could do is shake my head and think, "boy, am I glad I'm not a teenager now". Yes, it's true that when I was young I would wear those nylon shorts (think Richard Simmons) and my mom would get onto me saying my rear was hanging out and I didn't think anything about it. She REALLY hated it when I would wear long t-shirts (most of the time) with those shorts because she said it looked like I didn't have any pants on.lol Still, these girls now wear these shorts that really aren't much different than some bikini bottoms and then they wear some barely-there tank top. Maybe 5 or 10 years from now that's what they'll do...just wear bikini's everywhere. Heck, maybe they are already doing that in California or Florida. I live in the more dull and modest midwest so it'll take a while before it gets here!

Shorts? I call 'em "butt wraps" and NOBODY that grew up in this house ever had a pair

if they are short enough, don't they just become boy shorts?

I'm just biting my tongue right now in my "Happy Senior" community. I have some friends who seem normal in every other way but are still wearing rather short shorts, even out to dinner at fairly upscale restaurants. That bothers me more.

Doesn't bother me at all.

I live in Arizona and it's so hot here that I'm surprised people even wear clothing.

I tried to wear them - even at my tiniest size and my legs rubbed and I felt self concious. I say more power to anyone who can wear them and do them justice at any age - but yes they are not made to be worn everywhere!

In my 20s, they had those and they were called hot pants. I wore some and they looked nice on with the boots! I think young girls and young women in their early 20s can wear this look without looking bad, its cute and a fad.

It's the rare person I see who actually looks good in them, regardless of age.

And as with anything, there's a time and a place to wear them. People seem to forget that.

I don't really like them.

You have to have really, really good legs to wear them and look good in them.

I'm in my mid 30s and would NEVER wear them and think it's INappropriate for ANY age. Shorts should be shorts, not underwear, and NOT worn in public.

I don't have a problem with young girls wearing them - most of them usually have the figure to wear them. Some woman wear anything and don't care how they look and they are the ones who shouldn't and imo, look ridiculous! ITA w/what Crow said!

Are we talking about butt cheeks showing Daisy Dukes? If so, IMO there isn't a figure good enough to wear those. They aren't ladylike in the least. Sorry.

If you are just talking about shorter shorts, that's a different story.

Funny that this subject would come up. I live near a public middle school, tomorrow is the last day of school for them. Today was a half day. I was quite shocked when I saw how most of the girls were dressed this morning. And I am not a prude, stuck in the distant past. I accept change, I think change is good. However. The girls were all dressed in teeny, weeny, fringed Daisy Duke shorts. Too short, too tight, not appropriate for school. That's what went through my mind. The second thought that went through my mind was "where were their mothers?". Fashion or not. I would not have allowed my daughter to wear things like to school. But this is 2010 and anything goes today. Their mothers are probably those women we see strutting around in leggings that are two sizes two small and little tee shirts that barely cover their muffin tops.

A lot of girls change when they get to school so their parents aren't aware of them changing.

I feel it's up to the school to send a child who is dressed inappropriately home to change.

Unless you're a teenager (lower teens) they're gonna look trashy - I don't care how good you're figure is. I suppose if you're out clubbing you can wear them and then it's OK to look like a tramp.Wink

That made me really chuckle, Pawz! I had some of those Richard Simmons shorts too, but I only wore them at home...that's it. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I agree. I think it is possible to look attractive without being immodest...like you're "throwing yourself" at men.

My mom would refer to this as dressing (and acting) like a lady. Seems to be a lost art.

Nowadays, the belief seems to be that if you have "the body" for it, then you should wear it. I disagree with that.

And their mothers are probably the ones wondering why so many young women are attacked these days. Do people not have any common sense anymore? As we hear more and more about young women being attacked, we see more and more ridiculously scantily clad girls everywhere we go -- at church, at the mall, at the grocery store. Come on, who the heck are you trying to attract at the grocery store?!?!?!? And don't you think in church there should be a little bit of respect shown???? This type of dress is CLEARLY to get attention, and it is attracting the wrong kind of attention.

If you have the bod for them.. look and feel young.. they're within your comfort level and you have the confidence to pull it off.... I say, go for it. I especially like them with flat or low heeled boots. My granddaughters think I'm totally hip and tell me how cute I look. Not that I ever expected to look cute at my age.. {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

Trashy? Not if you read the above. I despise that type of female labeling anyway.

Are they appropriate for all settings? I think even a moron would know the answer. NO, NO and NO.

ETA: BTW, I'm NOT talking butt cheek short - too revealing at any age. I'm talking conservatively short covering the entire top of the thigh- as opposed to walking short or Bermuda length.

And that appears to be the problem. The morons don't seem to know, because women (and yes, mostly young women) being inappropriately dressed is becoming more and more prevalent and accepted.
