Ever heard of Acetone Nail Polish Remover for shingles blisters???

Started 1275623908.167 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1275669262.393 by deb5555

I just googled home remedies and that was recommended several times!! Has anyone ever used it for shingles??

Someone here suggest white vinegar - google recommended that too.

These blisters are killing me - I think I'll try the vinegar. I've been using Benadryl gel but it doesn't help much.

Don't give up five minutes before the miracle. . . . .

i don't think having a chemical enter your body is such a good thing..........your skin is the largest organ of your body.........since shingles are a form of the herpes virus and the cast off disease of chicken pox, i think something like ambesol, blistex, or other fever blister type meds would be a better might also try dumburo soaks with a wet cloth of the will help dry them out.......................raven

Acetone is dangerous.

I know some use that for their nails but it is absorbed into the body and they get sick and have no idea why.

Don't use acetone. It's a fire/explosion hazard! I'm sure you don't want that. Why don't you ask your doctor for those Lidocaine patches? Those really helped me when I had shingles. I actually couldn't put anything else on mine cause they hurt so bad when I touched them. Even Benedryl hurt and burned them.

Get well soon.

Snuggle-Bunny - the first time I had shingles the doctor rx'd Domboro soaks. It is a drying agent . You soak a cloth in the solution and apply it to the blisters every few hours. This product is available in the drugstore and will dry up the sores which means the itching will go away sooner. Can your DH go to the drugstore and ask the pharmacist about it?

Oops didn't see Raven's post. Try the Domboro soaks.

Oh come on SB don't try anything other than Calamine lotion (dries up the blisters when used daily or more frequent if directions say it is ok) and LIDOCAINE PATCHES for pain or whatever the doctors recommend. Those of us who have suffered through this, know what works having gone through Shingles so please, don't do anything foolish!

After you are all thru this.......get the shot so you don"t have togo thru this again!

Your Dr will take care of that.

In the the Dr back and ask for something to get your self thru this! It does help!

SnuggleBunny, I had hoped you were feeling better by now...Don't think I would use the acetone. Try the Domboro soaked wash cloth. I know it must be miserable so I am wishing a speedy recovery for you!

Poor bunny, I realize they are very painful but I can not see acetone being a good thing. Please reconsider.

Snuggle-Bunny , try painting a few with CLEAR nailpolish. NOW DONT YELL. It keeps the air out, air helps make them itch.

Since this was used on me, siblings, my children, and recommended by a doctor, for chicken pocks. I tried it on my mohter in law when she had shingles. it was propably the only time in her life that she thanked me for anything.

Get the shot soon if your considering it, there is a shortage until November or December where I work, don't wait if your thinking about it.
