How long should I wait for Ebay seller to ship an item?

Started 1269171013.197 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1269339683.25 by Grade1Teach

I don't purchase from ebay very often, but won an item last Sunday.  I paid through PayPal that same day.  After hearing nothing from the seller, I e-mailed on Thursday and received a reply that the seller's mother had been in the hospital for several days.  The seller promised to send the item the next day (Friday).

I've received no update from ebay that this item has shipped (I've received such notices in the past for other items.)  Am I being too impatient?  I have a bad feeling about this transaction.

Donna47 - just keep on it, if you are in NY & your item is shipping from Calif., you'd expect a longer shipping time (generally 8 days via UPS in this example). Shipping USPS Priority from NY to Calif is generally 3-5 days.  And things do happen that can delay a seller shipping your item. But just stay on it, try to give them the benefit of the doubt.  Double check their feedback...any bad reviews ??  Once I contacted a buyer who bought something from the same seller that I was waiting on & they told me they were just slow, but got their item as promised.  I've been an eBayer for 12 years & have never had a bad experience selling or buying.   Hope this makes you feel better about your purchase.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

I purchase from ebay from time to time, and shipping times vary.  I've had some sellers ship items within a day, while others took up to 2 weeks.  The seller that took two weeks to ship never bothered with an explanation.

I think it's a positive that the seller got back to you with an explanation.  I would wait a few more days and then contact him/her again for an update.

By the way - Did you check the seller's reviews before making your purchase?  I always do.  If a seller has lots of negatives or is relatively new to selling on ebay (low number of reviews), then I skip right over them.  Bad transactions can happen with anyone, but the chance is less likely if they have lots of great reviews.

I'm sure everything will be fine!

I don't always receive an email from ebay that an item has shipped- it depends on how the seller has their account set up. I sell at times and don't have those auto generated emails set up- I don't sell often enough to figure it all out!

I'd wait 2 weeks....

I have been buying on Ebay for years and shipments have always been made within a day or two.  Some sellers do note that they only ship on certain days.

I always give the seller the benefit of the doubt.  I agree with two weeks.

I would relax and give it a couple of days-- not all sellers inform you of when they ship.  Provided the seller has good feedback,   it will most likely be a perfectly fine transaction.   I have never had a bad experience buying on Ebay.  Good luck!

Had that problem and here's what I did: first, I tried to email the seller; at the same time, I clicked on something called "ebay resolution center" and reported it (a month had gone by).  Got immediate results -- received the item a few days later with an apology.

i definitely wait two weeks before i even send them an email asking if they have shipped out the item. if they have good feedback i generally give them the benefit of the doubt.

That your seller responded is a good indication that you will receive your item. I always send payment immediately after the close of the auction unless I'm bidding on other of the seller's items and want to combine to save on S&H. I always email the seller to let them know that.

Since I pay fast, I expect the seller to ship fast unless their auction page indicates that shipping will be delayed.

My DH sells on ebay and my DH mails his items out the day of or next day after payment is received no matter whats going on in our lives. I do agree being you got a note does seem positive but dont let it go. (Not everyone is honest, hopefully this seller is)
