With all the privacy on Google going out the window (not that there was much) I wanted to close out my google account, but I haven't found any instuctions on how to do so. Has anyone ever done this or know how to do this?

I tried to close my gmail account. I followed all the directions, but when I checked to see if it was actually gone, it wasn't.

I tried several times to close it, but it won't go away. All that is ever in there is spam, anyway and I guess it automatically deletes every so often.

Don't know what to tell you. I tried it and it didn't work.

Maggie,

Try closing your gmail account then have someone else try to email you and see if it gets bounced back. It is probable that like Facebook once you try to access the account yourself their system reads your cookies and it is automatically reactivated.

I dumped my cookies this morning (because of so many ads of sites I visited), but gmail was still there. I will have my son email me after I try getting rid of it.

Good idea, thanks.

Also, I think that if you do not sign into your google account they will not track you. I have gmail accounts but I use pop3 to download the messages into my email program so I never log into google in any form on my computer. I do not use the google search nor do I use Chrome as a browser.

I have five family gmail accounts I will have to assess before the new policies go into effect in March. I am not amused.

Oh my; how positively lovely!

Google ~ has always "spied" on your activtiy and keeps a record of it. Everything you "GOOGLE" is kept in their DB for at least two years - or more.
