now i see why my brother takes my mom with him when he is out shopping all the time!!!{#emotions_dlg.w00t}

he is vp of one of our banks but he will squeeze the heck out of a dollar. i had no idea so many of these stores had the discounts!

she said: "that's alot of money to spend on a purse!" and i instantly knew we could not be friends.

recently i made a reservation with Amtrak. They announced the earlier you book, the better the price. well, when i put in for 62+ the price increased with nearly $15.00. LOL. so be careful what you book...

Papa Ginos and D'Angelos in Massachusetts give senior discounts, too. Even my local Goodwill has Senior Day: 25% off on Tuesdays!

magenta,

Thanks for posting, I find this interesting. The only thing, and this is only with me, no one else, I have a little problem with the age 50. Now, for those that need it, I am happy for them.

But, I remember last year when DH turned 50, and we went to one of our favourite homestyle restaurants. We know the owners and everyone that works there. They always have coupons for buy one dinner, 1/2 off second. When the bill arrived, not only did they do the the coupon, but the Senior Discount. Much of their busines is Seniors.

Needless to say I was not a happy camper and would not let it rest until they took the Senior Discount off,lol. And since then I have not seen it on,lol.

I was reading this to DH, he said, "Ah you need me to go to K-mart with you, I said no thanks," This is only my opinion. I may feel 105, but I feel 50 is still young, even though considered middle age and I know it is,lol. I have some some time before 50,lol. Not much, but some,lol.

{#emotions_dlg.lol} NEVER got a discount at a K-Mart! and I'm well over 50!!

I remember B'King giving us one before we were even OLD....but we didn't correct them{#emotions_dlg.glare}

Duncan we get one if we go in. NOT at the drive-up, tho. I guess I should "mention it" when I'm in line! Can only imagine the teenie-bopper back there going HUH?

Hallmark here is on Tuesday, but if you don't say it they don't do it.

The rest on the list, well honestly, we don't have those retailers.

Hi Clem, yes, I do think you have to mention it. I know I did at Publix last week. I don't think any of them just come out and ask, afraid of insulting us! LOL

My sister used to bring our dad to Khols with her to get the senior discout. She called him her "coupon". Dad enjoyed the joke. Especially the time the cashier did not ask for his ID because he had such a beautiful head of white hair she did not need to see it!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Magenta. Local chains such as Bojangles' chicken and Smithfield Barbeque offer seniors discounts as well.

I used to get a discount at Whole Foods but they said they stopped it because someone screamed discrimination against people who aren't seniors. Boo! Hiss! I don't know if this is their national policy or just local stores.

I just called my local KMart Store and asked about a 20% senior discount and was told there is no senior discounts at any of the KMart stores in my area. I spoke with the manager and he said he never heard anything about such a discount, but would call the headquarters and find out.

He called me back and said there is no discount of any kind to senior citizens at this time.

Regarding K-Mart, I found this:

Kmart
Gold K presciption discount program. Up to 20% discount on prescription medication. Ages 50+.

I have mixed feelings about these discounts. I actually qualify for some of them, but I won't use them.

Yes, there are some seniors who need the discounts, but guess what? There are probably more college students who need them. My daughter for example. Yes, she has always worked while attending school, but money is tight with her and all her fellow students.

I guess the best thing to do when you check out is to ask if they have senior discounts or special discounts for college students.

FOr those of you who still have ROy Rodgers around there is a 10% Senior discount all the tiume. Like most of these places you have to ask for it.

I just checked Applebee's website and couldn't find anything about a Golden Apple card.

I used to eat at Applebee's frequently with my parents who had a Golden Apple card. Eventually, the staff didn't even what what these cards were and they became oddities. I think they phased them out. I haven't eaten there for several years as I got sick of their menu and the nasty manager at our local restaurant.

" Kmart: 20% off (50+) "

That's a substantial discount! I wish there was a Kmart closer to where I live. Instead we have a Walmart.
