Kitchen Trash Can, In The Cabinets or Self Standing On The Floor?

Which do you have and which do you prefer? Do you rinse food cans before throwing them in trash cans inside a cabinet? Do you throw food in there?

By GEORGE, we will find our way back home.

I have a free standing one. I have a very honest dog who does not think about getting into it. I have a place I can tuck it where is isn't visible from most of the kitchen.

I have pull out trash can. Love it! Since I don't have a disposal it all goes into the kitchen can. Vaccumm/clean out the area weekly. Not a problem.

Previously had a free-standing can and I much prefer the pull out type.

trash can under the sink

certain scraps go into compose pile

some things go down the garbage disposal

paper, plastic, glass and cans are recycled. All bottles, jars, cans, etc. are rinsed out before putting them in recycling.

Mine is on the floor because it is one of those 1/2 round stainless kind from BB&B.

Rarely do I rinse regular cans before throwing away. I do rinse most soda cans before they go in recycle. Don't need ants!! And I have to give these away for recycling as no one collects out here in the middle of nowhere.

This house isn't on a septic--yay--so most food goes into the disposal. Cans are rinsed and tossed into the recycle bin. My trashcan is a pretty, yellow one with a step-on feature to pop the lid open. It fits I to a corner of the laundry room.

Free standing oak with lid with rosemalling painting. Bought it at a craft sale. Had it about 12 years. Under sink is too hard on my hands. I keep a plastic garbage bag liner in it. This can is way too high for my shih tzu to even think about getting in to.

Use garbage disposal so garbage seldom gets stinky. I'll rinse meat trays, or fishy cans.

Mine is under the sink in the cabinet. I rinse all cans and bottles and those go into a recycling bin along with newspapers and cardboard, etc. Food scraps go right in the trash.

I have a teeny tiny pantry and my trash can goes in there. I have a garbage disposal and sort out things for recycling and I do rinse cans and 2-litre bottles out first.

But more importantly....TOOTHPASTE!!

Do you:

a. Wet your toothbrush and then apply your toothpaste?

b. Apply toothpaste to toothbrush and then wet it?

c. Wet toothbrush and then apply toothpaste and wet it again?

d. You're a freak and you just use it dry?

I NEED TO KNOW!!!!

I rinse all the things that go into the Recycle bin. My trash can is outside. After preparing a meal (when and if I cook) all stuff is in a plastic bag. Then the bag goes outside. No garbage inside house.

I used to know a lady from Alabama who froze her kitchen garbage in milk cartons before she she put the trash at the curb.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

We have a free standing Simple Human stainless steel garbage can in the kitchen with a recycling bin behind it and it is relatively hidden but easy enough to access if we need to.

I would never put garbage hidden away under a cabinet because I would be forever cleaning up around the can and I wouldn't feel it was sanitary putting garbage inside a cabinet. Just something we got into a habit of not doing when we lived in an apartment years ago in the city.

I agree.

My trash is taken to the bldg trash chute daily. After that should there be something other than paper to dispose of, I either put it in a ziploc bag or bowl in the refrigerator or freezer until next day.

My trash and garbage that can't go down the disposal, goes under the sink in a small waste basket. Anything that is recycled goes directlly out into the recycle bin in the garage.

I have a free standing trash can with a lid, and a step device that opens the lid. I use a kitchen liner bag inside. Nothing "messy" usually goes in there until I'm fixing dinner. After dinner, it goes out to the trash can. I also have a garbage disposal for peels, etc. I would never put a trash can inside of a cabinet.

I have a stainless trash can with a lid in my pantry. Food is fed to the disposal and all paper, glass, plastic and aluminum are recycled. I wash everything out before recycling.

I wet my toothbrush first and then on goes the toothpaste.

I also place my TP in the over position.

Brushed stainless Simple Human can from BB&B. Freestanding. Blends in very nicely with the stainless appliances. Never, ever had a trash can in a cabinet. It just doesn't seem as clean to me.

In the cabinet under the sink, IMO trashcans out in the kitchen are just,,,,nasty. And, I've never seen one that looked like anything I'd want seen in my kitchen. There's nothing in the cabinet under the sink except cleaning supplies, it isn't "dirty". Food waste gets sent down the disposal if it can be, all cans, etc are washed out.
