I was trying to ask this on the other thread, but it went bye-bye.

It's not something that can be explained in words. Maybe try this. Think about someone who you think is a big loser, or look at something that is really disgusting... all the while with a scowl on your face, your nose turned up a bit, and repeat 'feh' over and over. You'll get it.

I think of it as a flick of a hand under the chin towards the poster...meant with disdain.

it's meant to dismiss someone or their ideas, like go evaporate

Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of bat, and tongue of dog, Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing, For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a h ell-broth boil and bubble.

I think "feh" also sends the message that something (or someone) isn't worth anyone's valuable time.

At least it does to me!Wink

I think "meh" and "feh" are interchangeable...... JMO Although I would think "feh" would be used for something that doesn't smell too good and "meh" would be more dismissive.....as in "go away"...... or "nah" Still, they could mean the same thing.... LOL It really IS hard to put into words....

It is Yiddish, I think for not liking something or showing disapproval.

feh:

A yiddish word - expression of distaste or disgust, or in slang term general uninterest.

an expression used to denote a tone of dismissal

meh:

Indifference; to be used when one simply does not care.

"The verbal equivalent of a shrug of the shoulders."

used in the greatest tv show of all time The Simpsons. in the episode Hungry, Hungry Homer, bart and lisa respond to a homer inquiry with "meh".
