At what temperature do you take a fever reducer (for an adult)?

Is there a rule of thumb for this sort of thing? What is your favorite fever reducer?

Advil....and when I feel krappy enough.

My normal body temperature is 95.6, but that is low for most people. For me to have a real fever? My number is much lower than those that start out with a higher normal reading.

Seems like 98.6, or close to that is the norm. But now most of the hospitals around here give their readings in Celsius, and I haven't learned those numbers yet.

Lol, I did a quick google search and that seemed to be the answer. I'm hovering around 101, but feel like it's manageable. I'd rather avoid drugs if I can and let my body do its thing. Hi John, I also run a bit low normally...upper 97 to low 98. 95 is pretty low!

I think the last time I had a fever was when I was around 16.....But I'd say 101 degrees. Tylenol or a generic should work good.

You are such a good friend that if both of us were on a sinking ship and there was only one life jacket......I'd miss you heaps and think of you often.

I haven't had a fever in YEARS!! I also have a cold. I'd rather have the fever! Can't stand a stuffy nose.

I am pretty consistent at 97.9 anything above 99 and I feel junky. I have found Advil Liquid Gels are the best.

Feel better soon!

Previously "Justa" "JAWAM" or justawifeandmom changed it because I was tired of the comments.

A lot of times my temperature will go below normal when I am sick....just freeze.....and then it will spike up real quickly. When I get around 101, I start taking Tylenol. Find that to be the best fever breaker. That is what my internist tells me to take too.

Good luck

IT HITS 100, I feel it,,,take 2 Tylenol and a xanax and see you in the am:) Sometime I get lowgrade fevers, they are just as bad, so I take 2 Tylenol and put up my fee, get my coffee and cigs and watch TV....all day............

I think the doctors say 101. But like hckynut and justwifeandmom my "normal" temp runs low so I feel lousy at 99. Go by how you feel. But if it goes up anymore you might want to see a doctor.

I don't have a set temperature. I take it when I don't feel well or for my headaches.

Oh, your second question - my favorite fever reducer is Advil/ibuprofen or aspirin. I generally only use Tylenol/acetaminophen if nothing else is available as it just doesn't work as well for me. I really think aspirin is the best fever reducer (adults only, of course) if you don't use too much of it and if you don't have stomach issues.

My 'normal' temp is about 96.4 - so if I get anywhere near 99, I use aspirin.

Mine runs about 98.2 or 98.4. Right now I'm feeling like c r a p, my face is flushed and have a temp of 100. I'm going to let it run its course for a couple of hours before I take ibuprofen. Am drinkig lots of water in the meantime.

Break out the chicken soup - juice - and go to bed early! You might be able to nip it before it really blows up.

by 101 I'd take something....and the NEW way to take meds for symptoms is to take Tylenol and when it's time to take it again, switch to Motrin. It's to avoid the overdosing of Tylenol so it doesn't do liver damage.

They are even doing it in pedi - kids with the flu you treat the symptoms only, because the flu meds/side effects and young children is dangerous....and then you wait it out and hope it doesn't become pneumonia.

All the old decongestants, etc. for kids are off the market. Cripes, I raised mine when they originated and they seemed to live through it in spite findings today. Whatever!!

My normal temp is low as well.. 96.3 or so.

I've just had the flu for a week.. fever aches chills cough.

Couldn't get out of bed, Bless my DH for taking care of me all week!

I used tylenol all week.. if I didn't take it every 5 or 6 hours the fever would go up.

Thankfully I feel as though there is a light at the end of the tunnel !~

Stay well everyone
