Why does it take so long to get Etsy shipments?

Started 1295500274.82 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1295586380.217 by RubyinNE

I've ordered a few things from Etsy sellers on December 25, and I have yet to receive anything. I've written both of them, and they both said they will arrive "soon." What does that mean, and why does it take so long to ship something? It's the last time I'm ordering anything from Etsy. Is this typical of Etsy?

Etsy is not responsible for shipment times. It is the responsibility of each individual seller to process and ship the order in a timely fashion. No different than shipment times you may experience from Ebay.

Convo the sellers and ask them why it is taking so long. They are the only ones that truly know.

tm, I have been in touch with both of the sellers. I've only purchased three things through two different sellers. I guess it hasn't been the best experience. I'm sure there are reliable sellers too. Do you sell goods on Etsy?

My dumb luck. :) It's a good thing, I'm not in desperate need of anything I ordered, two skirts and a dress.

Some things are made specifically to order, so the turnaround time might be a few weeks.

Many things sold on Etsy are made by hand.

I bet that's it, they have a lot of neat handmade things.

Yes, these were handmade, but they said they were in stock. I hope I love what I bought. I paid for them on December 25th. :)

I've ordered a number of handmade items from Etsy and they always arrive very quickly......even two different items from Australia.

Be you to others kind & true as you would have others be to you.

Well, I emailed them BOTH on Monday. They said they were on their way. I don't think I'm going to order from them anymore. I did really like what I ordered. Maybe it will be worth the wait.

I try to order from sellers with 100% satisfaction. Hope your items arrive and that they are just what you wanted!

Thanks, Travel. They both were rated high in customer satisfaction. One of them was a dress to wear at the rehearsal dinner for my DD wedding. Luckily it isn't until next September. I ordered it because it was "different."

I think the nature of the products (hand made) makes the process longer in some cases. "In stock" could mean that the seller has the fabric on hand and doesn't have to buy it first. Also, I don't know if you know the location of the seller, but often they are far away. I just got a package from Australia last week that I ordered a couple of days before x-mas, but it was worth the wait. It was not for a particular occasion, which I had told the seller because I didn't want her to think I expected to get it by Christmas. As long as you are happy with the items when they arrive, it's not too bad. Just keep it in mind when ordering a birthday gift. I had a gift sent to my sister and purposely chose a seller in her home state because I had cut it close {#emotions_dlg.blush} and it arrived early! Good luck with your fun clothes!

I really enjoy shopping on Etsy-so many unique items. Very handy for birthday and Christmas presents. I've even requested some custom items and have been very pleased. Right now I'm redecorating my living room with handmade pillows and throws from Etsy. I've only had one bad experience--seller never sent the item and then they disappeared. I reported it and the seller was banned. Fortunately, it was inexpensive--$10.

Anyway, I'm sorry your experience hasn't been the best.

I was behind a car that had a logo - we were at a light....and it said Hydrangea something...and said also see us on Etsy! Of course, I meant to remember to look it up and now can't even remember what it was called, but whatever! Had I not heard about this site on here I wouldn't have even noticed......

my friend's daughter/bridesmaids ordered their invitations for the wedding, the shower, and thank you notes from the same vendor at etsy...they were beautiful and a custom design...they were a little late in arriving, maybe 10 days, but they ordered early so it wasn't a problem.

It must just be that seller.

I love Etsy for stationary and trinkets. I bought all my Christmas cards this year from various sellers. I haven't had any problems with any of the sellers. BUT I've read where some people have.

My problem with Etsy is for some reason....if I'm on that site for too long....it crashes my computer. I don't know if it's a virus or what but that's the only problem I've had. I've asked other people and no one seems to have the same problem as me. So it might just be my computer.

I've never had a problem with Etsy sellers. Could it be those sellers were out of town the week after Christmas? It does happen. :)

Then there's the question of how these were shipped. USPS can be notoriously slow for certain classes of mail. I usually wait 21 business days before even contacting sellers, both on Etsy and eBay. And I never, ever buy from either place when I need something right away.

I thought everything sold on Etsy had to be made by hand. No?

Well, hopefully, the clothing will be especially nice, and worth the wait. I know NOT to order and expect it right away. I know if I am asked about the sellers, I will have to say I waited a long time for the clothing.

is everything homemade on Etsy? I think my DD has ordered a few wedding related things on Etsy. I hope she has better luck than me.
