Doesn't surprise me...it's just a blow up bed with lots of padding.

Good it was figured out and hopefully mom's headaches will go away. Surely she is now allergic to mold, yet another medical issue.

Something caused the mold to grow. It needs moisture I thought.

I have read several items on these threads about the downside of Sleep by number beds. I don't own one and don't plan on buying one ever. Thanks for the warning

I'm guessing, but what makes sense in my mind is the warmth of the body goes through the padding and the plastic blow-up part sweats a little every single time you sleep.

I have 3 of them, 2 of them the foam wears down.....so I roll to the center of the bed, no kidding, it is rediculous for the anout of $$$$ these beds cost. To replace the foam is expensive. The customer service is horrible with the company too, I would never buy one of these beds again. Check it out online, al kinds of complaints. I've read about the mold issue also.

That makes sense to me. I have a close friend who has horrendous back problems. He ordered the bed and recommends it, but it just doesn't appeal to me. The mold thing is good to know.

I have heard the same thing about Tempurpedics (mold problems).

Previously "Justa" "JAWAM" or justawifeandmom changed it because I was tired of the comments.

This is absolutely disgusting, thanks for the warning. Just when all I wanted was one of these beds when I grew up and then this happens!! Are there ways to prevent mold growth??

I have a sleep number bed. A couple years ago, unzipped the topper and found some mold. I called the company and they sent out all new toppers and interior parts. They said it was a problem then but with the new material they use, shouldn't have mold anymore. They replaced w/ no cost and the bed was a couple years old by then. Besides that issue, I do like the sleep number mattress. It's much better than the regular mattress we used to have.

My bed was over 10 years when I heard about this. Checked the bed, called customer service and got the whole guts of the bed replaced. Customer service was very nice and I love my sleep number. It is now 12 years old and with all new guts it should go on for another 20 years. Yes, they replaced everything including the blow up matresses.

We love our sleep number beds. We have one that's 8 years old and one that's 4 years old. I check them on a regular basis but have never had a mold problem. We purchased ours directly from the Select Comfort store. I think they are better beds than the ones sold on QVC. Both of our are model #7000.

Couldn't all types of beds contain mold?

It would seem that they could. They all have materials in them that might get damp when they are exposed to humidity.

yup. especially if you live in a more humid climate. it's not just a sleep number bed problem.

foam does not support mold or bed bugs, mites, etc.

Wow - I should get rid of mine.

My only issue so far has been one of my remotes broke and one of the beds likes to inflate and deflate itself whenever it feels like it (motor kicks on and everything)

I can be whoever I want to be.

OMG! I'm glad I don't own one, hope your mom is MUCH better.

Wow! Have any of you reported this to the BBB or Cosumer Reports?

Sounds like a recall is in order.
