Will wild birds eat apples?

Started 1286308645.357 in Viewpoints | Last reply 1286588754.283 by pupcakes

I know this is a strange question, but i have a bunch of macintosh apples that my kids wont eat because they are too bruised. If i throw them outside will the birds eat them?

They probably would, but I would remove the seeds. I know, from having a parrot, that one should never let them eat apple seeds as they can be poisonous to birds. My guy does eat apples that I give him, but I don't know how different his taste would be from wild birds. :)

yes, but chop them up. Otherwise, they will just peck at it.

other animals will come & eat the apples as well - but since you want to get rid of those apples, the more, the merrier!

Thanks Ladies. I dont mind any of the above animals, except the rodents. I will take them down the hill and throw them into the woods that is not close to the house.

Perfect recycling! What the critters don't eat will get absorbed back into the earth.

That's what I do. They'll eat pretty much anything. Just watch the salty stuff.

The fruit eating birds might like mockingbirds and cardinals. Maybe starlings too,(they eat anything).

Catbirds love apples! Slice them in half and they'll clean them out leaving only the skin behind.

I have a fruit feeder that I fill up when we have some over-ripe fruit. Our birds love apples and grapes.

Spread some peanut butter on the apple halves and dip them in to birdseed before you put them out. Give them a treat!

Be kind to dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with ketchup.

I don't know about McIntosh apples but they pick my yellow delicious tree clean.
