Peyton Manning's Twins - Surrogate?

Started 1302783488.117 in Sports | Last reply 1303497196.73 by chrystaltree

This had to be one of the best kept secrets of all time. The fact that Peyton and his wife were about to become parents.

Rumors finally began flying about 48 hr before the official announcement, but weeks after the actual birth.

And 100% of all press releases, news reports, etc., avoids saying his wife "gave birth" or any other wording that sounds like she was pregnant.

Nothing like "Mom and babies are doing fine", etc.

Just "became parents".

"The children were born...."

Anyone else find this very odd?

If they were adopted or the pregnancy was carried by a surrogate, why not just say that?

If they weren't, it's too weird that not once was there any reference to his wife being pg or giving birth, etc.

Eli Manning's news reports said "gave birth', etc., but not brother Peyton's.

I agree. There is no shame in not "giving birth" and having children by other means! Perhaps, they just want their privacy and prefer not to share any details one way or the other.

Agree and I'm a diehard Colts Fan being from Indiana and I respect their privacy. Just wishing the family good wishes.

IMHO, tho, why not make a simple statement? By shrouding everything in secrecy makes it seem shamful.

Why do they owe the public an explaination? {#emotions_dlg.scared}

I don't get it. It's their private business.

I don't think they owe anybody any explanation. It's their business. I'm sick and tired of people feeling they need to know everything about everybody's business.

I'm not saying they DO owe anyone an explanation, but rather questioning WHY THE SECRECY?

Whether adoption, surrogate, whatever - it's common place and fully accepted.

Reminds me of the 1950s when a heartthrob was to keep his girlfriend or wife a secret.

I think you just answered your own question..They don't owe anyone an explanantion...so they have chosen to announce it the way they have...

Questioning the secrecy - it's none of anyone's business how their children came into this world or under what circumstances. There are many people involved who don't need to have their names or their privacy compromised by looky-lu's and nosey people.

Agree 100%

Privacy is something that everyone is entitled to. Wishing the Manning Family health and happiness. Being a Colts Fan I just see 2 little colts fans. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I agree! Also, it only makes people more curious and more intrusive! I do believe they deserve their privacy, but it's difficult when you are in the public eye.

Maybe they just did not want to announce their personal business to strangers. Does not mean they are ashamed of it, just that they consider it too personal to talk about in public.

That is kinda refreshing actually; I think people overshare these days.

Pro-aging.

Well maybe this means his wife won't be spouting off her viewpoints on breastfeeding and how there should be a law that we all have to do it like Tom Brady's wife Giselle did.

I can't stand Tom Brady, so I didn't even know about his baby or his wife's idiotic statement.

I'm anti-bf-ing, so I'm glad I missed it!

Because if it is an adoption or surrogacy, there's at least one other person involved who may not wish to be the subject of media attention.

They probably wanted to keep details private; I can understand that. Congratulations to them. Two more Colts added to the family!

Wow - guess it's not just me who found it really strange how the Mannings chose to handle this. My thoughts finally began being echoed on-air and in all the papers.

I just don't understand why people who are sooooooooooo public - he actually had a world-renown children's hospital RENAMED to HIS name, for goodness sakes - would suddenly become oh, so very "private"??????

Just so totally out of character for such a very public figure.

To me, it's like back in the day when movie stars hid their mental health issues. It's no longer shameful.

I don't get where you think Ashley Manning is "sooooooo public". She's NEVER in the public eye and you would never even know Peyton is married. Remember the " Peyton is getting a divorce" rumors from not too long ago? I agree...it's their business and if they've chosen to give two possibly unwanted children a good home and a good life, I say good for them!

I don't think it's called secrecy, it's called privacy. Things change when you have children and it's not just he and his wife anymore so maybe he is trying to protect his children's privacy for whatever reason. I'd much rather see that then someone like Kate Plus 8 parading her children all over the world like little ducklings or having cameras in the bathroom when they are being potty trained. We are oversaturated with junk like that. Children also have a right to privacy and it sounds like Peyton Manning and his wife are just being good parents. The public is not entitled to know everything about a public person and especially their children.

I wouldn't know Peyton Manning if he walked by me on the street and until I saw this thread did not know what team he played for or that he had twins. But wish congratulations to the new little family.

Of course the media is salivating all over this because they smell a kernal of information that they don't have access to and they hate that. The more tabloid the better because that's what the public wants. But they have short attention spans and a day from now they'll be chasing after somebody else.

If my parents had purposely hid my origins, I'd think they were ashamed of me or that there was something "bad" about it.

At least they'll have the money to pay for a good psychologist if that happens.

Those were not "unwanted children". They were most likely conceived by the Mannings but carried by the other woman.

Why are you assuming they are hiding their children's origins from them? They are infants. What they tell their family and their children is none of your business.

I think you are blurring the line from what they need to tell the public and what they need to tell their own children.

Unless you know for sure how they were conceived why don't you let them have their privacy and quit worrying about it. If they want their privacy we should respect that and I am from Indiana and I am not as concerned about it as you. I just see 2 more little colts.
