QVC and Amazon.com

So I remembered seeing a heating pad on the Q that covers your neck and shoulders, and I've got a neck problem. (Checked locally couldn't find it) Yeah Q has it for 36.75 with shipping of 6.72. So I put the name of it into google, it's on amazon for, are you ready, $27 with free shipping. Since my neck hurts, I paid $5.95 to get it in 3-5 days (which we know won't happen at the Q.) Grand total of $32.85, including shipping. I guess that's why QVC changes such high shipping/handling, to make up for lost orders!

I have started buying a lot of things from Amazon. Not only do they have just about everything, but if you join Amazon Prime, for $70 a year you get free 2-day shipping on every order. If I order something on Monday, it's at my door on Wednesday. You reallly can't beat it.

I bought one of those and love it. I cannot remember where I got mine though either QVC or Amazon.

I got that Sunbeam heating pad from walmart.com last year. Same as with many of the reviews on the Q, it did not get very hot (lukewarm at best). So I returned it to the local store. They were having free shipping when I ordered. So no shipping costs at all. I find all sorts of stuff I see on the Q elsewhere for less. I hope you like your heating pad, that is a great concept!

I agree Lizzy I also love Amazon and I prefer shopping with them.

I absolutely love Amazon and its fast shipping. I do most of my ordering through Amazon and have only had to return one item in three years.

love Amazon,

1. fast shipping

2. free shippping if over $25 or a prime member - NO TAX

3. no questions asked on returns

4. resolution problems with their sellers (quickly)

5. choice of prices depending on who is selling the item at the same time

And the customer service is second to none... Period.....

I only buy things on QVC that I can't find anywhere else... primarily their jewelry.

QVC is more expensive.. especially when you add tax and shipping. I've even found cheaper "today's special value" products elsewhere. BUT.. when I was thinking about it, I can understand why QVC isn't as cheap as Amazon or other places...

You have to consider that QVC puts on a full blown TV production. They have to pay hosts, camera people, sound people, producers, lighting, etc. etc. etc. That's not cheap! And on top of all of that, they need to make a profit somehow.

Amazon doesn't support an entire cable television operation. You're comparing apples and oranges.

I used to do a lot more shopping on QVC than I do now. It used to be that you could buy unusual items that you couldn't find elsewhere. That is no longer true and it seems like most of my favorite lines have disappeared. QVC's shipping is high and to make matters worse, they don't combine like items in one box which is wasteful and expensive for the customer. I too have found a lot of what I used to buy from QVC on Amazon and as bonnielu said, with many advantages.

It amazes me how QVC can still be in business. I like Amazon much better.

I totally agree. I am shopping more and more with Amazon and LOVE it! QVC could learn a thing or two from Amazon.

I recently started using Amazon for my kids college books- what a difference from the college book stores! I signed up for 'prime' on a trial basis, not sure if I'll keep it active since the temptation to buy is WAY too strong... Wink

I buy often from Amazon. I usually use free USPS shipping unless it is something needing faster UPS shipping. The deals are great, and customer service is A++.

I would say I have switched about 90% of my online shopping to Amazon. Lower prices, free shipping, and MUCH faster than QVC could even dream of doing.

My DD tried QVC recently, and became so frustrated with the poor shipping, she went back to Amazon.

I'd love to give my business to QVC more. It's too bad that if you find it cheaper that they won't honor their price like some stores do. I recently found a LG blush 12 dollars cheaper at Amazon so I cancelled my order here.

I may not be perfect, but some parts of me are pretty awesome.

Could someone please tell me if you join Amazon Prime & receive 2 day shipping, which carrier do they use.

I have a problem in the winter because UPS does not want to come up here (were 3 miles up a mountain), FedEX will deliver & if it's shipped USPS I can go down to the Post Office & pick it up.

I have called Amazon a few times and asked and they tell me they make that decission (which carrier they use) at the time of shipping. I have not asked about their shipping methods for "Prime" members.

After becoming disgusted with the long delivery time and high shipping charges, I have also been doing the bulk of my shopping with Amazon. My other fav is the O.

You really did not have to pay the extra shipping

The item would have been at your door step in one

or two days...

Many things arrive at my door in one or two days..Some

others 3 days tops...

Hi! There is not one standard carrier for Prime shipments. I get stuff by UPS, FedEx, and ONTRAC. I believe that ONTRAC is regional (great service!), but the other two are nationwide of course. For some reason, even though I don't pay the extra $3.99 for overnight, I get orders that are shipped by FedEx Overnight. But I always get my orders in either one day or two.

They don't really use USPS because everything is shipped with a guaranteed type shipping (i.e. UPS 2Day Air or FedEx Two Day or Overnight). USPS only has one guaranteed product and that is Express Mail. I'm pretty sure the price is way higher than anything that UPS or FedEx offers.

My New Year's resolution is to stop buying from QVC. I think my UPS driver is sadder than I am!

carlycat - I had this exact same neck warmer on my Christmas list that I gave my husband. I even gave him the QVC item number. Well, I did receive my warmer for Christmas, but my husband said he got it WAY cheaper from Amazon! I see now why he said that. Good for him. I'm like everyone else on this board - I'm starting to purchase from Amazon so much more than QVC. I was a loyal QVC customer for the last 20 years, but not so much anymore. Shipping is too high especially considering the cost of their products when compared to other retailers.

If I see a product I want from QVC, I check on amazon and it's always cheaper and I get free shipping and no sales tax.

Update: I got my heating pad today, 3 days later. Can you imagine that from QVC? I think the Q is becoming obsolete, kind of like a bag phone or big desktop computer. It was the first generation of catalog shopping besides strictly mail order, and now it's a dinosaur. Sadly, they don't see it.
